inventory and movement

Post by Lunever »

You can cast spells and fight or use other action items while in the inventory, why can't you move?
I'd like to have this added, of course only for the RTC mode, not for original DM.

Have you tried running and fighting in real life while looking inside a backpack for stuff? FTL rationalised this functionality by assuming that if you're rummaging about for things, you can't very well run away at the same time. And a good rationale this is too. Changing this is too un-DM!

I knew ahead that you would say this to be un-dm, but then, being capable of fighting and casting while looking in the backpack in DM, it would be more reasonable to be able to walk while looking into the backpack.
To answer your question: In real life I am capable of walking while searching something inside my backpack, but I am not capable of fighting while doing so. In DM it is the other way round.

well I would agree with you *IF* an addition were made. That is, that for each step taken the items would shift to a new location. remember you're looking into a back pack if you focus you can see where everything is. it's stationary and good. however if you are walking things will move around and your focus will not be perfect. you will be trying to remember where the wall is so you don't walk into it and then as such you would be rumaging around with your hand etc.

anyway, just a subtle point that you can not do this particular action perfectly while walking.
