I deeply believe that only "no-name" objects could be destroyed
by rusters.
I would be terrible to lose say "The Dragon Fang" , "The Inquisitor" or (only) "The Diamont Edge".
Rusters (no-name only please...)

Re: Rusters (no-name only please...)
The whole point of having the rusters is so that the player learns from experience that they have to use something other than edged weapons to kill it. There's no point in having the ruster "rust" stuff on a selective basis, might as well just not have them.
If you lose a favourite weapon because you don't realise what's happening, then it's tough. And if it means you have to go back to an earlier save game, or start over, that's tough too. These games are about Role Playing, and simulating real scenarios (to a degree), so imagine how you'd react in exactly such a scenario, and play accordingly. You have the advantage that you now know that the rusters do actually "rust" things, so there's absolutely no reason for you to lose any wepaons anyway!

Yes. A weapon should not be exempt from rusting just because it is a cool weapon. Although magical weapons might be reasonably exempted, I think, the Dragon fang is not such an item: After all, if you only loose worthless items, than what is rusting all about?
The Diamond Edge should be exempted, simply because it is not made of metal (diamonds don't rust!)

Parting is all we know from Heaven, and all we need of hell.
Re: Rusters (no-name only please...)
Yup, i'd say only exception weapons should be allowed to be excempt - for example an 'excabilur' or firestaff should have immunity, but a one-off sword, even if magical, shouldn't - bye bye fury, bolt blade, inquisitor etc : )
diamond edge....it's got either a) a finely crafted edge, or b) a 'diamond edge
the rest is metal, bye bye : )

He he; you've just given me a really nasty idea for a puzzle: You need to place Diamonds in an alcove to progress, but the only way you can get the diamonds is to attack a Ruster with Diamond Edge so that you end up with a pile of diamonds!
What a sacrifice...

Re: Rusters (no-name only please...)
Each object has a "RUST_TO" property. If this is non-null then when hit by a ruster it will transform to that object. Currently only the swords have this property set (and all to an object of a pile of rust).
Therefore
- It's possible to "exempt" certain items, but I have no plans on doing so.
- It's possible to create the puzzle gambit describes, i.e. have objects rusting to things other than rust.

Re: Rusters (no-name only please...)
ok now that's cool!
I have no problem leaving DM set up how it is, and the 'rust_to' is so much better than just rust/not rust for future dungeons
