now that I have tested my dungeon thoroughly through the compiler and have 0 critical errors, I have a good RTC file created
I have inserted it with the DM_Original CSB and DM
files, so that my ChiefyDungeon can be selected from the list
All goes well for the first 30 minutes play, then unexpected and apparently random errors suddenly come onto the computer
"RTC has detected an access violation exception"
the whole game is STOPPED and any progress made lost
you go to the DM folder holding all the files and find a notepad diagnostic sheet commencing "Stack dump utilMemory.utilFree (pointer Ox"
ok reload the game and try again, 5 minutes ... 10 minutes later another access violation exception, this time "can't open /modules//ChiefyDungeon.RTC"
ok go to modules, YES ChiefyDungeon RTC IS THERE ! why can't the schmeggin program open it ?
After 30 /40 minutes play these "access violation exceptions" start creeping in
anybody got some advice please, they are ruining the game
I have a few warnings from the compiler but no critical errors
access violation exception

stumped?
hey you guys, never come across "access violation error then?"
ok, I don't know the reason, but I have a working theory
consider the case of a dungeon editor guy, with no upload to the internet
he has only a CD-R to send a m8. the m8 loads up the CD-R and plays the dungeon but hold on, when you try to play from CD-R, the game save fails!
well it would do. playing from CD, means the program seeks the original location, of the originating folder to put the game save into
it's not GOING to be able to PUT the game save onto disc is it?
ok, copy all the files from D<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ohwell.gif ALT=""><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> to C<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ohwell.gif ALT=""><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END-->
NOW the game save works HOORAY!
BUT and it's a big but, what is the STATUS of all the RTCs copied from D<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ohwell.gif ALT=""><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> to C<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ohwell.gif ALT=""><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> now ???
guess, what is their STATUS?
it is READ ONLY!!
yes, the tick is there in READ ONLY
can a READ ONLY RTC be modified? Er no it can't
Take the tick out of "READ ONLY" (in properties) and hey presto, no "access violation errors"
hmmm what a conundrum

Re: access violation exception
Well worked out!
For you peace of mind (and for any others in the future!) this shouldn't be a problem in V0.25 as RTC automatically detects read-only files and prevents the user from writing to them. I added this feature in a while ago to sort out another bug (with the high score tables) but it looks like it will help with this one too!
