Ok, so I was messing around at the pit with the Firestaff (v0.03) and this is what I found:
You can correctly drop objects down the pit by clicking with the object on the pit.
If you throw objects over the pit, when they hit the far wall they land on the floor, and don't go down the pit. If however you throw an object that would fall down the FRONT HALF of the pit (e.g. a chest and you're standing one square away), then the onject DOES FALL DOWN THE PIT.
I also noticed that when launching fireballs etc. using Invoke, there were no explosions on the far wall - they just vanished. Fuse didn't appear to do anything either - no magic explosion graphic.

Also, in DM you briefly see the pit directly underneath you when you fall down it. You don't get to see that in RTC as it's too quick.
