Door bashing
I feel that doors are too hard to break down. I'm playing game with one character (Wuuf), something I haven't done before. But I can't get through the door on level 4 which you have to cut through (nor the "none shall pass" one on level 2).
I've already trained him to Artisan or so fighter, and it's so slow gaining levels that it's painful to do more than this, but he still can't cut through the door.
And because of the rune system, I can't give him a ku potion to temporarily increase his strength.
Is there a way around this, or do I have to give up and try again with a different character (I won't - I'll just give up if that's the case, and wait for a different clone).

Re: Door bashing
You need at least 50 strength to bash down a door - I believe this is exactly the same as DM? If it isn't then please let me know and I'll change it.

Re: Door bashing
That's definitely not right - way too high. I can check this tonight and get back to you...
Re: Door bashing
You needed fourty.
I wouldn't mind high strength kicks being able to take out doors too, did the Amiga version do this? I always thought it did, but I can't do it with the PC version
As for ways round this...sounds like you need a halk, stamm or someone like that from the hall of chamopins...kill 'em off after and carry on with wuuf.

Was unable to (permenantly) kill off ian_scho (Haynuus), Ameena, oh_brother (Westian), money (Falkor), raixel (Petal) and Lord_Bones (Aurek) in the DM D&D game Time's Champions!

Grrrr
So I did that - resurrected Halk from the hall of champions and used him to break down the "none shall pass" door on level 2 and "don't let a closed door stop you" on level 4. Then I killed him off.
Then I found the other door which needs to be bashed through, further through level 4. What a waste of time.

Strength to bash a door
I have just checked this and used DMute to change the strength of several characters. They can all bash the door with Strength 39 or higher - not possible with anything lower. Dexterity also seems to play a factor in determining whether or not it bashes on the first hit...

Re: Strength to bash a door
Incidentally, on the ST version, the first door you come to on level 2 that can be bashed (the one that normally needs a gold key) is reinforced and unbreakable. On the PC and Amiga you can bash this as it's a normal door. Lots of subtle differences like that between the ST and other versions - i wonder why...

Tweaking...it's a disease...poor William has been working on the same game since 1907, and is now on version 9.78965. Please, your money can help...
Stamina is a factor in the PC vesion for chopping down doors. If you are exhausted and on single point stamina you couldn't chop a door even if your strength was fine.

Re: Door bashing
Just a thought, maybe there was a hidden factor applied to strength calculations in DM depending on how pumped up or not your characters were, and also adversely effected by stamina. It always seemed to me to feel that characters engaged in lots of combat after a while were able to throw lots of large damage hits, and conversely if stamina was low it always felt like characters were just hitting a little under thewir normal. It would also explain the weight boost, and the door chopping innability I found. Just a thought...
