Body damage (v0.09)

Post by beowuuf »

type: difference to dm
property: assignment and effect of damage
priority: medium

It's ncie to have the damage back again, but it now comes up too quickly! One trolin hit can usually inflict odd damage (like a hand wound) while any hit from a rock monster seems very likely to bring two areas damaged. It does seem reasonable that trolins are powerful enough to inflict body damage, just only on rare occasions would seem more likely, and in DM rock monsters were also likely to damage, but usually only one area.

Secondly, body damage doesn't seem to be affecting my party anyway - not in obvious ways. Ususally leg and foot reduced speed obviously, body (and head?) reduced it slightly too...I forget any hidden properties.
Was unable to (permenantly) kill off ian_scho (Haynuus), Ameena, oh_brother (Westian), money (Falkor), raixel (Petal) and Lord_Bones (Aurek) in the DM D&D game Time's Champions!

the striking area..

Post by cowsmanaut »

Monsters that do damage in DM have a striking area. things like worms and rockpiles usually only did damage to the lower portions of the body.. (basically only the hands and feet got wounded) Goems and trolins did head and chest damage..

People who wished to beat a person but not draw blood would often do things to cusion the blow like wraping a towel around the baseball bat.. now if you figure on that.. then blows below a certain damage level should not inflict wounds. I know that is an odd example but it's the best I had...

Also poison acumulates in DM and so did wounds.. you could damage an area more than once before curing it. The way you have it set up it's one spell level per wound healed. This is not so. I've had to use a 3rd level heal on a head wound from golems before. it's sorta like the damage icons stack one on the other..Know what I mean?

I've never noticed the heaped damage! I agree, the body damage in general seemed targetted, and also general damage only occured on large hits. Also, pit damage is different now...I dropped down a pit, and poor wuuf is now in a full body cast, while everyone else seems to have espcaped with head and hand wounds. Actually, since the DM manual had pits supposidly deep enough that they tumble, then this is fair - but I think foot damage should still be the main effect.

pit damage

Post by cowsmanaut »

I'll agree with the foot thing if the character is part cat.. however if you figure it's an accidental thing most of the time when you go down a pit.. I don't think you are jumping head first..

It's more likley you slipping and then reaching for a handhold .. or taking a step in that first foot never reaches the ground you thought was there and zoom you're falling head first.

.. I was going to write more but it's turning into a suggestion so look there for the continuation..
