Crash on importing (v0.11)

Post by beowuuf »

priority: depends

I just used my v0.10 party to start a new dungeon, with difficult rating 15 (just to see how bad it was) and on pressing 'enter dungeon' rtc collapsed to nothing ; (

I'll try different things out, but just wanted to give a quick warning incase it's something simple
Was unable to (permenantly) kill off ian_scho (Haynuus), Ameena, oh_brother (Westian), money (Falkor), raixel (Petal) and Lord_Bones (Aurek) in the DM D&D game Time's Champions!

Try:

- Importing at 0 from a V0.10 save
- Importing at 14 from a V0.10 save
- Importing at 15 from a V0.11 save

and see if you can replicate the crash...

It may be that if the total of the internal hike plus the external defined difficulty is over 15 then it goes wrong?

Powering down issues on my comp and and so on are making this heavy going, but I think it is a crash due to high difficulty settings. So far i've been trying variations of the party I tried to import at 15 and:

A normal underefficienct party enters the game ok at archmaster (45% and 71% efficiency for one and two characters)
Overefficient ratings (using two or more characters) of 120%, 134% and 149% have entered the game with No ill effects (rating set to neophyte for the first and novice for the other two, then raised further to archmaster)

A partial party of 152%, and full party at 155% efficiency crash the game.

However, using Iaido (from another v10 game) at a rating of 219% it set the difficulty to journeyman, then upgraded to archmaster fine. His stamina did start rising not falling (as did the food passed starting levels) when he moved around, and mosters refused to attack, so maybe it's just a variation of the bug here. I played the same with the imported 122% party and they were attacked and lost stamina fine, as was a Halk only imported party.

A different full party (using a v0.11 save) enters fine (at only 64%!)

I've started trying with the rating at 0, and so far everything seems fine (a low strength, the full overrated and a completely overrated iado party have all got in) so i think it is just bugs in combining the two scores.
The 14 rating also works fine for the v10 party (still 155%, novice adjusted to archmaster) and has the same bug for the 219% iado entering.

Finally, for the Iaido thing, the rating of 13 produced an even more noticeable varient of the bug (with his stamina jumping by 50, and wall damage at -150!, and monsters attacking this time. All this even though the ratings were set to journeyman then archmaster same as the higher ones were). I had to lower the difficulty setting to 12 befroe finally the game behaved itself (same initial conditions, journeyman upgraded to archmaster)

Ok, that's me done testing importing things...i wanna play it properly now (not on a 15though...; ) )

Wow - very thorough! This must have taken quite some time to work out! Are there any other variants that you think are worth looking at?

If you (or anyone) has a large v0.11 party you could start messing around with importing them, and see if the same results hold up for overefficient parties.
Or check out if the effects of importing a v0.11 iaido at high difficulty settings (it would also confirm the bug I was finding with my v0.10 iaido).

I can take a look at that just as soon as I can download v0.11 - George's page seems to be down at the moment....

I imported my finishing party back into the dungeon again, and at 183% it upgraded to apprentice then further to archmaster, and I got the same odd behaviour (frozen creatures and inverse damage/stamina loss) as with the v0.10 iaido

The inverse stamina and damage loss sounds like your using too small a memory space for the large amounts of damage / stamina being dealt with at extremely high difficulty levels. I recently did the same to a poker game, I bet too much money, won and had -1000 dollars =p.
