Simultaneous Sounds (probably all versions)

Messages are moved here (should anyone ever want to see them again) once they are no longer applicable to the current version (e.g. suggestions that have been implemented or bugs that have been fixed).

Simultaneous Sounds (probably all versions)

Post by Gambit37 »

Category: Sound
Type: Difference from DM/Personal annoyance

When the same sound is played quickly one after the other, such as the 'swipe' of a weapon, multiple explosions, or several war cries (or indeed probably any sound), you don't hear all of them. RTC appears to wait for the previous sound to finish before playing the next, so you may have made 10 warcries, but only heard 5. It's really unnerving and very strange indeed. In DM the previous sound was cut off if another sound needed to be played. Obviously that was because of only one sound channel available, but that shouldn't be a problem in Windows. I'm not sure whether it's better to do what DM did, or play all the sounds regardless. If you do the latter, it could sound weird as sounds begin to overlap, and it may cause distortion.

It's especially a problem on monster movement sounds, in particular the wing flaps and footsteps of a giggler. Because you don't hear all the individual sounds it appears that the creatures are really slow, when in reality I'm not sure they are (I was going to post that as another bug).

I think this has been a problem with RTC all along, but it seems more noticeable in v14 for some unknown reason.

if you used more than one channel as is possible these days overlap would be possible.. and more likley in the "real" world..

Simply would add to the ambience..
