Water Elemental drain-bug (0.20)

Post by Big-J-Q »

In the cistern there are water elementals and drains in the floor. Whenever a WE drops down in one, my characters abt. 60000 damage. This usually kills my first character, and the others receive 130000-200000 health. Quite incredible! (of course the healths get fixed when healing injuries..)

Yes, I can confirm this. Anything that enters the damage tile affects the party!

I edited the CSB dungeon so that I could go straight to the tile and launched some fireballs at it from a distance. Each time a fireball entered the tile, the party took damage. I reduced the damage to 5 so that I wouldn't be wiped out, but I only received 1 point of damage for each activation.

It also seems flawed in operation. I would expect the tile to do continuous damage--say once every half second you're on it--but it only does damage if you turn on the spot on the tile, or exit and enter the tile repeatedly. If you stay on the tile, you only receive damage once and then are safe, unless you drop objects on the tile or something else enters it, in which case you'll take damage.

That's how i'd want it to work (once per time on it), except without every action re-iterating damage

If you eant continuous damage, have a teleporter on the square targeting the square so as long as the party stands on it they will keep re-entering it

For example there should be a difference detween a spike trap (only hit once) to lava (the teleporter returning you to the square if you are standing on it)

Unless you can define a damage period, with -1 = infinite time between damage
Was unable to (permenantly) kill off ian_scho (Haynuus), Ameena, oh_brother (Westian), money (Falkor), raixel (Petal) and Lord_Bones (Aurek) in the DM D&D game Time's Champions!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THOSE WHO MADE THE GAME WHAT IT WAS - GREAT!

I guess I saw it working the way the lava did in Doom...

I think Beowuuf's right - a parameter would be useful to switch between continuous and once only damage (or at least once every time you enter the tile).

Hmmm ... I reported random party deaths on the level that has the Ant-men (Ku Path) and in The Diain Triangle level. Maybe it was a random monster hitting a Damage Tile.

Yes, but in RTC monsters are active on levels above and below the level you're currently on, so this would equate:

Antmen are on the same level as the Cistern
Dain triangle is one level above.

Each time an elemental moves onto the drain, it gets teleported to the damage tile, and due to the bug, the party takes damage or is killed.
