Newbie:HELP in understanding RTC

Post by 1040stf »

Hi, I've just rediscovered DungeonMaster from Georges and I was really pleased to see this game still is alive (I played it back to the 80s on my Atari 1040stf).

1-Is there a way to modify the graphics on DM ?

I tweaked the config.txt, set the resolution to 1024x768x24 and used Cache and AntiAliasing, but the graphics still are as old as they were on the Atari. Moreover the display is too small as though it is a 640x480 over a 1024x768 resolution.

2-I saw some new dungeons with fantastic graphics, but how to use them?

3-Is there a way to play both original DM with updated graphics?

Thanks for your help.

yes you can play with some new graphics. Some people have gone through the process and added some graphics from my archive, others have found graphics of their own ore modified the orriginals in some way. Then there are others like me who have started from scratch to make a new set.

In order to make use of them though you need to compile them into the dungeon. Since no one has really done this for DM or CSB dungeons yet there isn't anything to do but do it yourself by modifying the text to take the new graphics. Billgus was helping me with this while I was making the set however I don't know if he still has the text anymore. I never finished the set yet so it's incomplete.

What ever happened to the graphic/sound override? It just slowly slipped away, but is that because George altered RTC, or is it still in the code and just not actively mentioned anymore?

it's also in the dungeon is it not? He made the example with the orange, and the phantom. The sound for the phantom is like a panther roar. So I think you need to associate noises with the things that make them in the dungeon.txt as well.

That's still part of the editing though, with the cloning for new things and wallset options
Just wondered if the old player overide was still around in the code...

Edit: Interestingly, while the old codes and set up doesn't seem to work, it doesn't crash the game either...so that's nice : )

The override stuff doesn't work anymore; George overhauled it completely so that we could actually make the changes we kept asking for! Now you want to go backwards...?

Lol, no, didn't want it re-instated, i was just curious if the appendix-like bit of code had been removed or left hidden : )

Has anyone yet experimented with the sounds in a dungeon? So far I did not encounter new sound effects in new dungeons...
