Highest level reached in DM?

Post by +Seeker19 »

A question occurred to me from a comment I just posted: what's the highest level you have achieved in a normal game of DM (that is to say, trying to finish the game without spending hours whacking screamers, purple worms, or giant rats)?

There were some years since I finished Dungeon Master, but I remember that one member reached the first level of Master of some skill. Other than that I recall that all had Journeyman to Expert levels on all skills (Fithter, Ninja, Priest, Wizard).

I pushed all of my champions to fist master level in every skill.. how much i tried i could never get any higher.. it might be the limit of the game. I CSB these champions really kicked ass, but their stats were generally lower than those you could begin with..

In DM 2: Legend of Skullkeep i pushed all of them to the sixth master level, with ease!

Doing the whole game (every secret, etc) but not deliberately building everyone up, I usually get to expert level with everything except nija, which is about artisan (on a single player). For a four person, about the same, but ninja levels lower, and evryone build up only in their own class.

Interesting. For myself, the ninja levels always go up at least as fast as the priest or fighter levels (the wizard levels are always at the top, of course). But this may be due to my practice of carrying around a weapon or two to throw at the first sing of a monster, and occasionally to test whether walls are illusory or not.
There's nothing like a thrown axe!

My playing style atm is to fight my way through everything, but except for throwing random fireballs and practicing potions when i have spare mana, i don't try and build up, so the ninja levels are only gained when thumping rocks (or screamers, if i want some extra levels and hp)
There is something satisfying about seeing a thrown axe spin though, or also a stone club as it does it's nice heavy damage.

Yeah, I was wondering if it was just me or if it took a long while to go up in levels on DM because when I played DM2 I went up pretty quickly. Then again I haven't played DM that much, haven't played past the part where you first encounter the bees Level 3 or 4 I think. But on DM2 I got most of my guys to go to the highest levels except in a skill or two.

Indeed

Yes, in DM2, characters would go up in leverls quicker than in DM. Just like at the begining of CSB. I don't know why it's like that, but it was quite obvious...
