Should storage of items depend on their size?

[Done for V0.38] Object size (chests)

Post by PicturesInTheDark »

Probably an old request but here we go: Coins and other small items like gems take the same space in a chest like any others. Personally I find this not a regular problem since it was probably implemented like that for ease of use. However, just playing a game on CSBwin that requires a lot of gems and coins during the play I would like to suggest either a kind of "wallet" (like in DM2) or sub-spaces in chests for coins or gems, since otherwise you have to run through the whole dungeon again to aquire some silver coin that should normally be much easier stored in a chest than a leather jerkin - but there's only 8 "spaces"...

I'd suggest a poll (will try to include one) if anybody besides me wishes for that - maybe it's unnecessary anyway. So - happy polling ;)

while this is a good idea for DM2 conversion and for new dungeons I'm opposed to adding it into a DM or CSB dunegon for one really good reason.

it was designed with out it.

What this means is that you tip the scales when you add the ability to differentiate like that. The dungeon was designed and tested around this "fallback" and as such you alter the balance if you repair it. The idea would be to make it more challenging not easier if you plan to make adjustments to DM or CSB.. (ie the spell book)

Just my oppinion.

how about a purse which can hold only small things (with weight up to 0.2 or 0.3) and 8-16 spaces. there you can store coins, keys etc.
the purse itself should weight like 2 kg to accord its use.

I am perfectly agreeing with you cowsmanaut you see things from that angle. I just felt that this was something not handled as precise as many of the other controls in this game - probably it was the easiest way to do it like that.

But anyway - without a substantial vote in favour there will be no changes and besides, I have no idea yet what George thinks about it.

Just one more note: In general I agree about more challenging - but in this case I'm convinced it does not matter one way or the other, but would simply reduce nerve-wracking storage problems that are completely unnecessary and illogical if it comes to coins.

I think it will be enough if items like purses, key-rings and quivers (being kinda modified chests) will be in the RTC code, so they can be included in your dungeon designs but are not automatically in the DM/CSB dungeon.

just to confirm.. I'm not saying it shouldn't be added.. As I said DM2 conversion (if someone wanted to grab the maps and graphics) would need that kind of object.. I just think that the CSB and DM maps should do without it.
