Can't get going!
Imagine my shear delight at after spending years trying to find a copy of my favourite game ever I stumble accross a free download of it at this site. The problem being now that it is downloaded I cannot get the program to install, as soon as I press on the install icon a ms-dos window appears and it just says "finished install" and asks me to imput a drive letter but gives me no cursor to do so! Can somebody out there please help this frustrated Dungeoneer and shed some light on my computer ignorance?

RE: Can't get going!
You don't need to install it - just unzip the contents to a folder and run it by double clicking on the DM icon, or in a dos prompt, type DM. If you're running through windows, you probably won't get sound even if you select it, so select options 1,1,1 to get going...
RE: Can't get going!
I run it by shutting down my computer and entering MS-DOS mode. Then I run a mouse driver manually, and I can get sound the normal way. If I choose sound in windows it plays at like 50% of the normal speed, and eventually it locks the computer.
RE: Still can't get going!
Thank you very much for your reply, however I can manage the enter dos mode bit but after that I don't have a clue!
If you would be so kind as to give me a blow by blow account of how you run a mouse driver manually and get sound the normal way I shall be eternaly grateful.

Okay, since you've managed to enter DOS mode I'll skip that part. The next thing would be to run the mouse driver. If you have a Microsoft or Logitech (or compatible) mouse, it won't be hard to find a working driver on the internet. For example, my driver's called MOUSE501.EXE, so searching for that would probably show you the way. When you've entered DOS mode just run this file by typing the file name and complete path (example: \DRIVERS\MOUSE\MOUSE501). It should display some text to let you know that everything is working. Then enter the directory where you put Dungeon Master (example: CD \GAMES\DM) and run the game by typing "DM". Then you can select mouse control even when you're in DOS mode, and if you select soundblaster sound you should hear all the wonderful 8-bit noise in the game without any trouble. Good luck!
RE: Still can't get going!
Using a Soundblaster PCI64 I find that selecting any type of sound seriously slows the game down when sound events occur (doors, monsters, spells etc.) which is to do with my card not working properly in DOS (it doesn't like DOS, regardless of the configuration). I get the option to select Sound Blaster but the slowdown is a nightmare during sound events.
