Dungeon Master Mysteries and Inferences, please re

Post by phlux »

Hi
i first played dungeon master on the amiga and even though i couldnt make it out of the second level i still loved it
now im playing it on the PC and it has reminded me how much of an impact the game had on me at the time

on the amiga, the simple things like runes, champion stats, exp, i couldnt really understand
but it was still fun picking the champions because they looked cool, or picking tiggy and gando just to cary the partys weight and so they could be starved(laugh)

anyways, point is dungeon master is a great game and im thankful to be playing to today, and for such a wonderful website

in acquiring the game a few days ago and playing it whatever chance i had, i have a few questions for the archmasters out there

first one is the rabbits foot, i thought it was just some charm item of the sort, the item list on this site says it increases odds in combat, does this take affect no matter where the rabbits foot is in the inventory?

are the scrolls just to inform you of new spells or do they serve any other purpose, im only on level 5 and my chest is getting full of them, is it worth while to keep them around for anything ? i should probably just write down the spells

what about the ash piles? do they serve a purpose?

how much AI is there for armor? like if i want gothmog to wear a necklace and his cloak of night, would he suffer a large armor loss? what about the effectiveness of shields?

i think i made a mistake in throwing a small shield (weight 2.1) for a wooden shield (1.4) because the wooden shield looks larger on the ground

or what about leather boots (weight 1.6) as opposed to suede boots(1.4), i know any armor difference would be minor, just curios, any intel?

i was also curious as to what the hardcleave's bezerk action does
(cant wait until i get it, stamm deserves it!)

OH and my original reason for this post:
is there ANY difference between an arrow and a slayer?!
the item list has no notes for either, the weight is the same
my inference is(biased by how DM makes you think!) is that perhaps the slayer has better flight, as depicted by the larger tail on the arrow, and maybe a more pointed head, even if weight is the same, it probably inflicts more damage, any verification? i just found the crossbow :)

ditched the sling, poison darts, and throwing stars so gothmog could just use the crossbow, what do you guys think?
what items have you guys wondered about?

No one's managed to quantify armour that's telling about it, so it's still common sense and guess work. Boots probably have the same armour value, I'd guess that a small metal shield would outrank the wooden one, or at best they are comparable. Shields in general would probably add some armour, but there are better uses for that hand with potions or alternate weaponry.

According to the CSB4win++, the rabbit's food increases your 'luck' no matter where it is carried - this luck value is hidden, but effects more than just combat.

Scrolls just tell you abotu the spells, apart from use as markers you don't need them at all.

As far as i know, the armour factor of wearing a cloak on the neck or body doesn't make a difference. However, there is a dexterity bonus on the cloak, so wearing it is definitely a good idea.

Ash piles are just atmosphere items. The game mnechanics allow them to activate things, but no original dungeons need them for anything. Plus, they are large enough on the ground to conciel things : )

The hardcleave and inquisitor's beserserk option is a powerful attack option that does alot of damage to opponents, armoured or not.
By the end of the game, you really want somethign with a cleave ioption in the hands of a high ninja, or somehting with a berserk option in the hands of a high fighter...

Not qualntified, but it is certain that the slayer does more damage. Not sure if it is more aerodynamic for a few little more distance. Weight isn't a bit indicator, though is does have an effect on thrown items.
Was unable to (permenantly) kill off ian_scho (Haynuus), Ameena, oh_brother (Westian), money (Falkor), raixel (Petal) and Lord_Bones (Aurek) in the DM D&D game Time's Champions!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THOSE WHO MADE THE GAME WHAT IT WAS - GREAT!

slayers are poisonous arrows, and if u often enough, the turn to normal arrows... their poison effect can be tested at blue ogres. i only managed once a slayer to "burn out", so hmmmm, not sure bout this...
