Help with AppleIIGS setup

Post by Sundeep Nandra »

I installed the version of XGS on this site, downloaded the two drive images from here, downloaded the configuration file, updated the registry, put the Dungeon Master disk into the S5D1 drive and boot device and the save game disk into S5D2. I've set the frames thingy, enabling it and testing the speed, it clocked at around 1170 but can only go to 1000 so that's fine....ran it and after FTL flashes across the screen, it quits. When running in a window, it reports a page fault error in XGS32.dll. I did actually run it before updating the registry and I could get to the entrance screen but the mouse wouldn't actually allow me to click anything in the emulator (Enter or Resume). HELP!

Oh and also, if I switch off the "frames thingy" (the cycle thing..sorry, use the internet on a Mac so doing this from memory), it gets past the "FTL" part, past the "presents" part and quits when trying to change "Dungeon Master" into the entrance screen. What the hell is going on?

Blah I worked it out :|. The save game disk should end "savedisk.2mg" but on the Mac..well it truncates file names over a certain length so whilst it was on the Mac I renamed the last part of that image to "save.2mg" and that was my problem. Grrr...anyway I'm trying to play now.........a bit hard getting used to the primitive controls, lol. The Treasure Maze..I've given up after going around for 10-15 mins. picking up various items (quite a lot but surely not all).

I've mapped the treasure maze in detail, and it's complicated only in the sense that each tile opens and closes only one specific alcove.... it takes time but it is mapable. I have nearly completed building a version of it for RTC (I have been lucky enough to have had early release versions of the text format for some months).

Could you make your map public? I've been trying to figure out the logic behind the "treasure maze" on and off for 10 years. Of course, it sounds more dramatic than it really is.

P.S. let me know if you figure out how to get the stuff on the far side of the shooting gallery. You can see it if you face the area where the mummies come out of (turn right when facing the way you'd toss objects to kill them) and sepping out into a pit.

The map will be on my new Dungeon Master website, coming soon(ish).

I think the key behind where the mummies come from is a red herring as I can see no way of getting to it.

What would the key even open anyway?
