Killing Chaos

Post by Graham Fearn »

Has anyone got any tips as to how to kill Chaos? I followed the Walkthrough guide on this site but he still seems able to walk through my Fluxcages even after backing him into a corner - am I doing something wrong? Also 'War Crying' Chaos doesn't seem to scare him either.

Also how many 'Invokes' does it take to kill Chaos? I got up to 30 last night without much success.

PS: I loved Dungeon Master when it first came out (I got it for my Atari ST) and still love playing it on my PC now. I showed my 16 year old brother-in-law DM last night and he said it looks pants! Teenagers - don't know they're born these days! You can't beat original games like this ....

Chaos isn't BLOCKED by fluxcage in original DM from FTL, this works only in RTC-DM.
You have to surround Chaos with fluxcage tiles and walls, the tile he stands upon has to be fluxcaged also, then cast FUSE on him and is he's history.
You can throw infinite spells or invokes on chaos or beat him 'til the end of times, it won't kill him. Although you can do damage to him and abuse him as a tough sparings partner, you can't really hurt him because he has infinite Health.

he isn't blocked by fluxcages in rtc dm either, unless this is a new bug
i don't think chaos can teleport still in rtc, i'm not sure...
the tile he stands on doesn't need a fluxcage

the alcove area is good, as it needs two cages, and a fast person can fuse him there quite nicely...calm is better than war cry, calm will work alot of the time
also, a fuse will scare chaos, so you can usually stand in one of the alcove squares, and when he appears push him into the other...

I have never found it difficult in the Atari or PC version.
In an open area I wait for Chaos to approach and stand
next to me. Then I cast four fluxcage by cast-turn-cast-
turn-cast-turn-cast turn so that I have fluxcage on all
sides of me. I face Chaos and back up one step. He
follows me into the square surrounded by fluxcage.
I fuse him.

Sometimes it take two tries.

I prefer to corner him in the northwester corner at 12/44/30, you need only 2/3 fluxcages to get him.
Beowuuf: Currently I'm playing RTC V0.19 and didn't try so far, whether fluxcage blocks Chaos or notin that version, but I'm sure, in V0.16 it did.

Kill the demon in the small room, take out all the demons so you have some room to run around. Use the horn of fear located on Level 4 I think, this works well scaring him and most non-elemental monsters.
Leave one of the doors open, after a while Chaos will come looking for you, chase him into the room. Get in and close the dorr, cast one fluxcage by the side of you and one next to him, not on him as he will teleport out if you do. If he is in the way then use the horn. Once you have a fluxcage either side of him sidestep and cast fuse, this works 75-80% of the time I find. I have recently found that you don't have to have the fluxcage on him just around him.
