Vitality

Post by Christopher »

Playing DM for all these years, I should probably know what all Vitality does, and what it doesn't do; but I don't. I have a book that says higher Vitality = less damage caused by monsters and a faster health recovery rate. I started a new game awhile back, setting all my stats to single numbers, and when I got to the scorpions, I was slightly amazed to see there poison damage was 4. Does Vitality have to do with anti-poison as well, or a faster natural recovery rate from poison? Could someone let me know the facts and myths of Vitality so I can decide if I need to bother taking it into consideration when I pick heros? I imagine all the info I need is on this site already but I can't find it.

Although I don't know what vitality does, I think I read somewhere that having stats less than 10 caused bizarre things to happen (for mana, at least).

I looked it up in the code:

You regenerate a constant number of lifepoints ((max health/128)+1 per tick. Vitality increases the number of ticks per minute.

As far as I seen Vitality counts like an armor, roughly said, tiggy with a plate mail gets the same damage as a Hawk in trousers :P
(well I don't know, maybe more, maybe less, but I hope you got the point ;) )

Mmmh... I didn't find anything about the poison damage. But it's probably in one of those undocumented functions.

As far as I seen the only factors that determine the amount of points you get in health/stamina/mana is the level.
i.e. you get more health from expert to master than from neophyte to novice.

Well, that's it :P

I must say I've noticed that you simply get more hit points the higher the level advancement. I did think, however, that vitality helped to govern this BUT from memory I'm sure Daroou has very low vitality and still ends up with clearly more hit points than Halk so maybe vitality doesn't affect how much health you get but more the recovery rate?

Another possible thing Vitality does that I forgot to mention is it might have to do with how long a hero can go without food. But I don't know for sure.

Sundeep: I think I already explained that in my previous post :P

Health/Stamina/Mana increase after gaining a level depends only of your actual level.
Vitality does affect the speed of recovery but the amount per tick depends on your max health.

Mmmh.. I didn't find anything about food, yet. Well, I'll try to look tomorrow again.

Something sure has to do with food, coz some run out of food and water quicker then others.
As far as I've noticed esspecially my wizzies run out of food and water quickly, so vitality could be it, but i'm not sure. Maybe Dexterity although that would be odd:)

i think its wisdom which increases the food consumption rate - indirectly.
because regenerating mana goes on the cost of stamina, and regenerating stamina cost food.
