Alternate dungeons!

flipping heck you guys, how many alternate dungeons are there ? SURELY they should all be included WITH the download
ok the ORANGE is a superb example to "would be" dungereering fellas

I'm not being sarcastic here
I mean it !

I looked at the .txt for "the orange" and five minutes later thought, "wow I can do this !"
ten minutes later, I had doubled the size of the dungeon and YOU'RE OFF :-)

The Orange is a tribute to Gilbert's foresight in seeing the need for a "make the example small and simple"

and THE ZOO hehe just HOW do you get those monsters to "stay" ? I looked and looked, just WHERE is the code that keeps them confined ??

and WHERE are the alternate dungeons in the download ? they're NOWHERE man !! what a waste :-( :-( :-(

They don't mean dungeons that come with RTC. The alterante dungeons are really hand made dungeons made by some of the people on this board(and some other boards too). They're mostly in the "New Dungeon Upload" Board.

Try looking in "The Zoo.txt" file again..the answer is there labeled "TELEPORTER".

Besides - with DMute 1.4 you can convert dungeons from DM/CSB to RTC...

Hi chiefy, i replied to you on a different threat (about DMJ and VI altars)

Basically what you are doign is for the clone RTC - all these other alternate dungeons are for the original DM game
And the reason they don't get packaged with it is its still FTLs property : )

when anybody downloads Gilbert's fine DM from the site they automatically get The Zoo and the Orange under Examples ... correct ?
how much memory would it take to put 3 or 4 of your best Alternate Dungeons in a folder alongside Examples ? Not doing this is a total waste of those authors efforts IMO

having the dungeons twice on the webspace IS a waste...and its complicated to support updates (which is necessesary in most cases ;)). i personally thik this system is ok...i once had a webpage dedicated to dungeons and i found out its too much effort compared to this forum.
maybe ill create a small page for my dungeons someday.

This is true, just noone seems to have produced a finished RTC dungeon based on their own DMuted versions yet : )
I'm sure George will be mroe than happy to include them in the download or in a seperate download if we asked, but I think this would only happen with v1.0, and as said here you can get the newest if there have been any bug fixes to versions

what could you get in "hand made" dungeons that is not possible with .txt RTC dungeons ? please give an example

thanks for the answer on the "zoo confinement"
because there is no teleporter "buzz" or "haze," that is a neat trick to novices like me
I tell you, it took me quite some time to pull that off in my own dungeon

you say that the reason alternate dungeons can't be packed alongside downloadable DM, is that it is still owned by FTL

I don't follow this argument

if DM is still owned by FTL, then George is allowing DM to be downloaded from this site, is that wrong ?
if not, then how does stopping alternate dungeons being downloaded with it have a bearing ?

Its tricky....the game is still FTLs, and while no one is runnign to procecute, if anyone asked Christophe would have to remove the dm game links and the graphics, as he doens't have permission (correct me if i'm wrong) to use them.
Just like fox basically killed a whole slew of sits for its tv shows when it started throwing its weight aroudn about images, etc

Now, we've already had one person tryign to advertise a 'buy DM' site packaging a few DMuted dungeons and the DM original, then they tried the same thign with RTC! Actually gettign money for doign that, that's where the problem lies, as that can annoy people, and also twists our work that is just for the love of the game we played years back. So personally, I think altering the original download of DM is startign to go into bad territory. We edit the game,s we make them available, someone worked on duplicating the engine of CSB in machine code, which runs some original files, but no one has actually gone and tried to re-package the original games and pass them off as a new entinty
If you like, this site is the DM pack you mentioned - its interactive, gives you all the latest dungeons, editors and manuals, along with scores and so on : )

RTC is completely different from DM - its a seperate engine, made from scratch by George. IT just so happens he's built it to act like the DM engine, and gone so far as to tweak any characteristics to be DM like
It uses the DM name and graphics - those would have to be removed or altered enough to placate people if it ever came to that, but othersie his game is his own.
It could be called Dungeon Trek and feature Pain Mice and Mauve tapeworms, whose art looked similar to DM's, and that would probably be enough of a change : )
