Eye of Time: 4 1
Yew Staff: 3 2
Staff of Manar: 3 2
Teo Wand: 2 1
Sceptre of Lyf: 1 1
Dragon Spit: 0 0 Very useless!
Serpent Staff: 4 1
Conduit: 4 1
Staff of Claws: 3 1 Brandish works well against Couatls
Torch: 5 ? Essential early on if have one man team with no mana

Rock: 1 0
Arrow: 2 4 If using bow
Slayer: 2 4 As above
Throwing Star: 2 4
Dagger: 3 2 Good early on (stab)
Poison Dart: 3 2 The best screamer killer

Plate Set: 2 1 Heavy

Crown of Nerra: 4 1

Power Towers: 5 1

Elven Boots: 4 2 I always give to rear men to increase capacity
Calista: 0 0 Pointless
Cloak of Night: 4 1

Moonstone: 5 2 There is something about this...
Gem of Ages: 3 1 And this...

Ful Bomb: 5 at least 4
Blue Magic Box: 3 at least 2
Green Magic Box: 5 at least 2
Rabbit's Foot: 4 2 Makes chance of hitting better (apparently...)
Rope: 3 1 Rather jump sometimes

It was rather difficult to rate them all, as certain items supercede others so they are then less useful (you are not going to carry a sabre once you get the Delta etc). So I have based my ratings mainly on the original DM dungeon at the point when I used them rather than how useful they are relatively. As for the armour, well does it DO anything?! I remember reading an artical many years ago in a computer magazine by Wayne Holder aying that ALL the armour (apart from magical) was USELESS!!! But us DM fans will still equip it though!

With the weapons I have found that CHOP hits very hard against certain monsters and can be more economical than BEZERK (why I favour the Hardcleave to Inquisitor) But BEZERK works much better against the Golems. Also the Diamond Edge has the STAB feature that seems to hit harder than say a dagger but is very economical and using this I have cut through hordes of monsters quicker than the Inquisitor or Hardcleave ever would. Saying that though my hardest ever hit was a Bezerk with the Inquisitor which wiped out an Oitu with a whopping 386 damage points. And the character wasn't modified! The Rapier works well against the Worms while the Delta is a good allrounder.

The reason why I do not prefer more of certain items is that I believe that having too many spoils things. Of course I would like 10 Furys, 4 Firestaffs and an infinite number of Ful bombs but this would be too much of a good thing. There should only be one of certain items to make you search for them and appreciate their worth at certain points in the game.

I think people should vote for their favourite spell. I personally like the poison cloud. Makes monsters back off if you are in trouble. Also poison bolt as you can fire it through plain iron doors and slaughters Rusters, Vexirks, Oitus and Dragons quicker than fireballs. Fireballs are work better against multiple targets. Lightning is the only spell to work against knights.

Look out on the Forum for my new Dungeon, in the next couple of days.

And thanks for a great site!

I hope you were not thanking me. There is an r at the end of my name (I knew as soon as I chose my first name as my identity that it could start confusion which is why I'm known as Fueaint at other places).
I thought of including spells, but it seems there are so few.
For Wizards I like Cloud of Poison the most, seems to kill wasps instantly.
Worst spell is Magic Footprints, only useful in gaining levels (I almost started a topic on this spell some time ago, but decided to investigate it myself), I use Invisiblity on my IIgs a whole lot (don't know why)
As for priest spells, VI is number one. After that is Fire Shield and Spell Shield. Worst spell is Wise Magician Potion (I think Wisdom is overrated)
In my new dungeon I'm making, I have invented one new spell in the story along with symbols. Too bad there is no way to program it into the game. I will certainly look for your dungeon. Hope you have played my dungeon.

1. Diamond Edge
2. Axe
3. Never have - does it make any difference?
4. I know you said not to say firestaff, but the sense of achievement picking up the unmodified firestaff from the tomb still can't be beaten.
Favourite item to use - probably the axe
5. Dragon steak, drumstick, bread-corn-etc, screamer slice, worm round

Thank you for your time. I will put an example response (my ratings) in case there is any confusion on any questions.

one word about the survey:
do NOT orientate on these results when building your dungeon. these are the items i prefer to use, but i do not complain if they are not existent. i personally never use ranged weapons, but i still throw them into my dungeons, not only because others might want to use them, but also for atmosphere, i would have the feeling of something beeing missing in the dungeons, if the crap items were not present. the items rated with a 0 or a 1, i never pick up unless i have to (i use a mace or morningstar only, if there is no sabre/axe present). i never take use of items having charges of spells on them which i can cast by myself (torch, yew, manar), but i still include them, if people want them or not, simply because they belong to the game.
if i could equip my characters as i wish to, they would carry these items:
all 4: flamebain, power towers, boots of speed
fighters: axe/delta/inquisitor (the best one available and beeing present)+shields; dex helm
mages: vorpal blades + potions; helm= crown of nerra.

i let all 4 members fight, until the "mages" are expert fighters, then they are simply at the back (its for the health mainly), and the fighters cast until they are expert at priest and wizard both (for a shootout with spells for example). after that, yellow and green are the fighters only, and red and blue are the mages. i choose my characters according to that system.
i also train when possible and also sleep to regenerate spellpoints.

BUT: i would not like to play a dungeon been setup to my style of playing, i love the surprise.

a word about the spells:
i only use several spells, which are:
fireball, vi potion, ya-ir shield, fireshield.
other spells i only use at very seldom opportunities.

1 What is your favorite weapon? Hardcleave (look), Inquisitor (function), Vorpal (usefulness), Fury (looks)
2 What weapon do you get most use from? All the above
3 Do you equip shields? Nope, waste of a potion hand
4 What is your favorite item throughout the entire game (can be anything but I would prefer you don't pick the Firestaff)?
5 Put the food items in order of what you most likely save for later, to what you eat right away or throw away. dragon steak, drumstick, bread, corn, apple, screamer slice
worm round eaten right away unless in weird dungeon with no food, and cheese is double the weight of most other foods - so will carry it if have space, let champs starve, and use it up early

Now to rate some items. Rate on a scale of 0-5, 5 being very useful and 0 being never used. After your rating number, put the number you prefer to have for that paticular item.

Rapier 2/3 1/2 (has that stab and thrust option)
Axe 3 2(chop nmelee for low level characters - say no more)
Vorpal Blade 5 2 (just so necessary, unlimited non-corp death)
Stone Club 1 0 (i've killed a goelm with one blow oin a tight corner unmodded, but usually useless)
Flamitt 2/3 5 (fireballs always good)
Storm Ring 2/3 5 (lightning lightning lightning)
Eye of Time 4 5 (long freeze life is fantastic!)
Yew Staff 2/3 5 (for dispel)
Staff of Manar 3 5 (+10 mana great, plus dispel)
Teo Wand 3 1/2 (spellshield not found anywhere else, +6 mana)
Sceptre of Lyf 1 0 (i don't use it, but forget how good the mana boost is)

Conduit 4 5 (+12 - 15 mana and lightning - cool staff)
Staff of Claws 2 0 (tend to dump it for better staves)

Projectiles
Rock 0 0
Arrow 1 2/3 (usually have a few for bow, but don't use)
Slayer 1 5 (keep what i find for bow, but don't use)

Dex Helm 4 2 (good for that dex boost)
Power Towers 4 2 (good for that strength boost!)
Boots of Speed 5 4 (mut have boots of speed!)
Flamebain 2/3 1/2 (tend to go with heavy arour over this)
Elven Boots 2 1/2 (good to begin with for little stength boost til boots of speed)
Calista 0 1/2 (looks if nothign else aroudn for back people)
Cloak of Night 3/4 1/2 (good for that dex boost)

Misc Items
Moonstone 2 1/2 (hidden property aids in spells)
Gem of Ages 3/4 1/2 (hidden property aids with spells, good for low level potions/light)
Ekkhard Cross lol, assume same as abovebut i go for gem of ages ; )

Choker 0 0 (never use it)

Green Magic Box 3/4 5 (that's better, good duration to hit under doors/ven people)
Rabbit's Foot 0 0 (increases luck, but never use them)
Rope 3/4 1 (good to move around pits - breaks and low character death annoying)
Was unable to (permenantly) kill off ian_scho (Haynuus), Ameena, oh_brother (Westian), money (Falkor), raixel (Petal) and Lord_Bones (Aurek) in the DM D&D game Time's Champions!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THOSE WHO MADE THE GAME WHAT IT WAS - GREAT!

(to Amber) My Parlous dungeon ran out of weapons when I still wanted to put more in. Now I will have a better idea of what I can take out (sorry Sling). And I'll know what to have more of.
(to Beowuuf) Sceptre of Lyf adds 4 mana and I seem to recall the Dragon spit adding 8 mana, I guess my memory is starting to fail more and more.
(to all) Moonstone adds three mana (I'm sure you all knew that but very few seem to care about that). I figured a survey might be fun and I would certainly like to take part in a DM2 survey.
When I play a dungeon, I try to keep everything. Most of the crap I get is used to mark areas I've been to or that dead end.

i know that moonstone gives 3 mana, but i never saw any use in that tiny bonus. same counts for the gem of ages and the ekkard cross, either my chars can cast a spell by themselves, or they can't (most probably, they can, because i train them).
when running out of weapons, i suggest that you delete some of any kind, but still let the variarity in the game. i think a total of 2 swords (+skeletons carrying falchions), 4 axes/sabres/samurai and 6 delta/rapier/hardcleave/inquisitor + 2 vorpal blades is enough in any dungeon (for me), any others you can swap for anything you like.
just my 2c.

lol, could be - i just know that sceptre of lyf has a bit of alteration depending on somehting..so could be 3 - 5
lol, too lazy to click on the DM items section at the side!

and i agree with all of amber's comments - what you would take if you have the choice, and what you will use and like if you don't have the choice, are so different

spells: you could 'fake' a new spell by havign scrolls, and a puzzle where you need to place the scrolls or representatins of the spell runes in a certain area in order to activate the spell (great fireball to destroy a door, or somehting)

spells i use: fireball, poison bolt, des ew

lightning bolt for training, and poison cloud for manourvering/taking out frozen people
use mystic light rather than magic torch later in dungeon ,so no torches by then
Was unable to (permenantly) kill off ian_scho (Haynuus), Ameena, oh_brother (Westian), money (Falkor), raixel (Petal) and Lord_Bones (Aurek) in the DM D&D game Time's Champions!

LOL
stop stalking me! : )

the moonstone is an internal thing like luck, but you can see it in the CSB items dump, and also explains why chani seems so hot at magic in the game, i guess

the gem of ages is the easiest to see
cast a potion to your limit without (with full flask, so you see the fairure rate)
then cast a potion one higher with the gem (same again, full flask to see the failure rate)
you'll cast it no problem!

Personally i managed to have 1 of every weapon in my dungeon, 5 of all throwing weapons, and a few torches littered around

So it is possible
Was unable to (permenantly) kill off ian_scho (Haynuus), Ameena, oh_brother (Westian), money (Falkor), raixel (Petal) and Lord_Bones (Aurek) in the DM D&D game Time's Champions!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THOSE WHO MADE THE GAME WHAT IT WAS - GREAT!

explain me plz the effect of the moonstone, i cant see any.
and even if it increases chances of spellcasting, i would not use it, for the same reason, i do not use ekkard and gem of ages.

chani is a super-caster anyways, i always donate her moonstone to the char having the least mana in my group and i never experienced that char to be the best caster now.
chani simply rocks because of her ridiculous high wisdom, which gives her bonus in succeeding spells and in manaregeneration.

1 What is your favorite weapon?
2 What weapon do you get most use from?
3 Do you equip shields?

Front Characters:
a) Hardcleave + Shield of Darc
b) Inquisitor + Shield of Lyte (or Mace of Order instead of Shield in RTC)
Rear Characters:
a) Speedbow + Slayers
b) Firestaff/Staff of Manar (or The Conduit if hacked)
Front anr rear characters are changed at times for training

Melee: Torch->Knife->Club->Falchion->Sword->Axe->Sabre->Rapier->Delta->Diamond Edge->Hardcleave->Inquisitor (in RTC: Diamond Edge for the 2nd fighter)
+Buckler->Small Shield->Wooden Shield->Large Shield->Shield of Lyte->Shield of Darc (in RTC: Mace of Order as off-hand-weapon)

Ranged:
Rock->Club->Knife->Throwing Stars->Sling->Poison Darts->Bow->Crossbow->Speedbow (arrow->slayer)

Magic-Users: Wand->Theowand->Staff of Claws->Yew Staff->Snake Staff->Staff of Manar->Firestaff->The Firestaff+

Charges:
All Psychologic Warfare (Calm/Brandish/Blow/Confuse)
Magical Boxes blue->green->Eye of Time (for these can't be simulated by spells)

Spells often used: Poison bolt, YaIr-Shield, Fireball, Ku-Potion, Ros-Potion
Spells used not as often: Knock, Antidot, Vi-Potion, Fireshield, Invisibility

4 What is your favorite item throughout the entire game (can be anything but I would prefer you don't pick the Firestaff)?

Boots of speed for all.

5 Put the food items in order of what you most likely save for later, to what you eat right away or throw away.

I save food that can't be replenished indefinitely, saving food which is the most nourishing and consume food which is not as nourishing first:
(Save <--)Dragonsteaks, bread, cheese, apple, corn.
Then I save food that can be replenished from Rats, Screamers and Worms anyway, again saving the more nourishing and using up the less nourishing first:
Drumsticks, screamer slices, worm rounds (-->Consume)

Now to rate some items. Rate on a scale of 0-5, 5 being very useful and 0 being never used. After your rating number, put the number you prefer to have for that paticular item.

Ooops.
Delta should be 4 1
And Mithril set should be 5 4

Also, many of the powerful items are not used very much because the game is almost done ere you find them.
