Four basic questions!!!!!!

Hello Folks!

I have played DM thousands of hours, but there are still four questions that I never have been able to answer and I hoped that some of you knew the answers, Thanks in advance:

1. Is there any benefit from using Lightning instead of fireball? Lightning is more expensive and makes less damage (whats the point?)

2. What good is all the shield spells, the only one that seems to have some effect is the "Fireshield", all the other seems worthless. What do they do?

3. Is there more than one way to kill chaos?

4. Whats the point of Parry with a weapon (it make very little damage and they still hit me hard as hell).

Its embaracing to admit that I still havent figured this out by myself but it feelt like it was time to ask!

1. dont think so
2. the ya-ir shield is VERY effective against knights and all other melee-attacking monsters
3. no
4. nothing at all, i think (as most ppl do), this function wasnt programmed properly...

Hmm thought you could kill chaos with the stormbringer...guess I better get back to Dm again.

Lightning works really well against knights, where fireballs do next to nothing.

Lightning is good for leveling up once you've reached about Expert level. Stun is another attack that seems to be useless.

1.) I guess, even monsters have the characteristics of anti-fire and anti-magic, so some monsters are supposed to be more vulnerable to lightning resisting with anti-magic only, while having a higher fire-resistance.

2.) YaIr is indeed good to aide fighters. Originally YaBro was intended to be a spellshield like from some wands, but it actually became a YaIr in flasks.

3.) Don't think so. But there is an alternative ending with the party being killed by Lord Librasulus.

4.) See the Adventurers Manual, there is this table with all fighter options:
Parry does less damage but adds instead to defense. Yet it is not of much use; I, personally, prefer all-out-damage-fighting.

1. Basically higher level monsters have high anti-fire, so fireballs are less effective (scorpions, rats and rusters) - but as noted, lightning's less damage really negates this...so everyone just pounds them with more firebnalls! (it also does more physical damage than fireball, so slightly better against knights and golems know are immune to the magical damage)

2. Face a golem with and without a spell shield - you can take a blow from it with the shield that would kil lyou otherwise (armour is the same, but slightly less obvious as you can still take large damage)

3. Stormbringer is in DM JAva, as it's not party of the FTL DM universe - it's from Michael Moorcock's fantasy books (Elric largely)

4. this is just number crunching so you can still get damaged, and it doesn't seem to make much difference...it's not a 'suddenly i'm invulnerable and cannot be hit for 5 seconds' effect : )
