Rabbit's Foot and War Cry
Hi everyone,
In the items section it says "Increase odds in combat" for the Rabbit's Foot. Does that apply to the whole party? Is the bonus doubled if the second Rabbit's Food is also carried?
How does the War Cry work in regards to XP? It seems like it can give XP in every class, not only Fighter. So do all Classes get XP every time War Cry is used, or is it randomly determined which gets them?

Re: Rabbit's Foot and War Cry
war cry gives fighter and about 1/2 to 2/3 or that amount also priest experience, no ninja and wizard though.
the rabbit foot works for the char having it in inventory or purse and increases his luck (hidden value) by 10. most characters have luck-values between 40 and 60. you can wear a 2nd rabbit foot, the bonus stacks up. cursed items decrease luck by 3, these 2 are the only ways to affect luck i know of.

For me, War Cry gives fighter experience when you use it in the air, and it gives you priest experience when you fight real creatures (as noted on the skills page).
Are you sure you always get experience in both of these skills?

Re: Rabbit's Foot and War Cry
Hmm, guess Amber is right. I never used War Cry at the air, I just had my back characters use it while the front line charas hacked away, and I got Fighter and Priest levels...
About luck, are there any other items/factors which affect it? Which items are cursed?

Re: Rabbit's Foot and War Cry
all items dropped by knights are cursed and also the biter in csb. you can see that by examining them.
i dont know of anything next to rabbits foot and cursed items which affect luck in any way. afaik, not even lvls in any way change it.

Re: Rabbit's Foot and War Cry
I just made the following test using Dungeon Master for PC v3.4 Multilanguage:
I resurrected Boris, who is not skilled at all as a Fighter and a Priest.
Then I spent a few minutes War Crying in the air in the Hall of champions (I guess all the sleeping creatures in the dungeon woke up by now).
Boris gained 3 Fighter levels and no Priest levels.
That means that priest XP gained is at most 25% of the fighter XP gained. Personnaly, I believe no priest is XP is gained at all in that case, but I might just be wrong.
Amber, I think what you saw might be a coincidence: you gained a priest level because you were War Crying with a creature in front of you, and you gained a fighter level because the creature attacked you (and you gain fighter XP when creatures attack you).
I have not tried in CSB (nor other DM versions), so I don't know if it's the same behavior.

Re: Rabbit's Foot and War Cry
but why warcry in the air when you can use a screamer for that? ;)
the fighter exp may be about the same, but the additional priest lvls are an argument for screamers :)
my facts may have been wrong but, at least, the result is the same :)

Re: Rabbit's Foot and War Cry
no one thought of using djarcas's CSB++ with the experience cheat? or does that not give the skill associated?

Re: Rabbit's Foot and War Cry
On luck again... is there any way to find out the luck score of the different characters? I tried textmute, but it doesn't show them.
How is determined if a character hits? Fighter/Ninja level and visible attributes matter and also luck? What's more important?

Re: Rabbit's Foot and War Cry
use the above-mentioned cheat CSB and you can make the luck stats visible
i find boosting strength helps hits, but that's just my impression - try dmuting around with the stats and seeing for yourself ; )

Re: Rabbit's Foot and War Cry
i dont think the exact formulas of "chance to hit" and "dealt damage" (for spells and attacks) are not knows.
i can guess, dam is affected by str, fighter lvl and maybe "weapontype vs monstertype" and luck
cth by dex, fighterlvl and very possible by luck
for spells its power symbol, wizard lvl and maybe luck and wisdom.
and there is also some random "diceroll" in every formula :)
