Eye of the beholder & DM in dosbox

Post by Daniel (Sweden) »

Hello Folks!

I thought this could be of intresst:

I have tested Eye of the Beholder 1 +2 in the Dosbox emulator and they work perfectly (I have played eob1 through and eob2 almost finished), there are no bugs eccept the mouse doubleclick some times (minor faults).
It might be good to know that the dosbox have problems with some crackversions. At first I could not get Eob1 to work with the crackversion I had, but when I used another version it worked perfectly.

DM (Pc dos version) works perfectly to, the only problem is the mouse doubleclick. Moving around is no problems since I use the keyboard, but spells are a knightmare.....

Lands of Lore and DM2 is a problem to me, some people say they have gotten them to work, but Im not one of them. If you find some working versions please let me know where to download them.

I have used the 0.56 version of dosbox!

Thanks in advance!

They say that the current dosbox version doesn't support protected mode and DM2 runs in protected mode. So it appears to be impossible to get DM2 to work in dosbox!..

That was intressting!

What does protected mode mean??????? I do have the original DM2 cd and it is no problem to copy it. What is it a protection against? The possibility to play it? Some kind of crash security?

No no .... protected mode is something about the memory in dos programs, nothing to do with copying protection. Basically, it allows to use more memory than the 'normal' dos programs. I think.

ahh.... I see! Thanks!

Well, then its not so awful as it first sounded. But I know that the dosbox crew see it as a problem for the emulator. Hope they will be able to fix it in the future, it really is a good emulator, something I would spend money on if it was out in the stores.

Thanks for the info.

Hello Halk!

Hmm...thats sounds odd. It worked perfectly with my Win95 & XP, I just typed

mount d d:/ (I have my games on d:)

And then it worked perfectly. I mounted the whole d-harddisk, and used it as in normal dos. It might be a bad download maybe. What operativ system do you use? What games did you try. eob and DM I guess?
It is important to say that DM only works in dosbox 0.56 but I think EOB works in 0.55 (not sure), but it works in 0.56 if you have a crack version of the game that is compatible with dosbox.

I had the same problem, but the previous version worked well.

It depends on the program you try to run it seems, some programs work, some don't. If it does appear to hang, check the MS-Dos prompt window (not the dos box one) that also runs with the program, and it will probably say Unsupported Feature or similar.

The new version of DOSBOX is out, it seems, as you say (23rd of December).

I will be testing it shortly.
