Stamina problems
When I first came here I was playing DM for Windows, played it through. Now I've started again with the CSBforWindowsLinux DM - and I'm screwed regarding Stamina. I never had any problems in the first game, but now my chars are dropping down exhausted every other minute (no, they're not overloaded).
That I'm using different chars (Halk, Hissssa, Wuuf, Chani instead of Stamm, Sonja, Tiggy, Chani) can't be the reason...
Also, I'm training them at the Screamer room right now, and I've got the impression the Sabre is WAY better than the Rapier - just as quick but more damage - which I didn't experience in the first game.
Though I'm not happy about the Stamina thing, I'm not really complaining, I'm more curious as to why there are these differences...

A
These are hard problems.
B
Just to be sure I understand exactly what you are
saying....I will repeat it in different words and you
can tell me where I went wrong.
You played Dungeon Master using CSBwin on a
Windows system. (What version of CSBwin?) Then
you played the same game using CSBwin on a
Linux system. The stamina behaved very differently.
You think it was 'correct' on the windows and 'incorrect'
on the Linux.
C
We will have to get Erik Svanberg involved. He and I can
probably compare the operation of the two versions.
There are a lot of places things could go wrong. Things
like signed/unsigned and 16-bit/32-bit caused a lot
of problems for me in the past.
D
Meanwhile, is it possible to make recording that can be
played on the two versions? One that demonstrates
the problem? I have never used the Linux
version so I don't know if it handles record/playback
properly. If it is possible, a saved game and a recording
would make things a lot easier than just a complaint using
English words. If there is a difference then the playback
will fail rather quickly on the other system.
E
Erik, are you there? Have you ever tried playing
the movies on the Linux system? They should work.

Re: Stamina problems
Sorry, seems like I described it badly... First I played DM for PC. Then I downloaded CSB for Windows/Linux and started playing the DM version that comes with it, because I wanted to have a csbgame.dat file so I could use my DM charas in CSB.

Re: Stamina problems
OK. I think others have noted this, too.
I think it is a difference between PC DM and
Atari Chaos Strikes Back. Perhaps it is an
error in my translation but nobody has found
the error yet.
At any rate, everyone has learned to 'live'
with it.

Re: Stamina problems
Have been meaning to ask this also! I noted the same - wasn't sure if there was a problem with the Port or the fact that the atari version of DM is harder than the Amiga. Paul can you, or anyone else, verify that? the only atari version i have played is the port, so technically am unable to verify. I played CSB4win till level 3 of DM and just got stuck, no stamina at all, then I tried the same with WinUAE and no problems at all. However what paul has done is in my eyes brilliant - no messing with emulators is a godsend!
Re: Stamina problems
ps - not to mention the technical achievement of "back engineering" the game...! Cheers!

Re: Stamina problems
i didnt have any stamina-problems...never had, never will ;-)
the solution is sleeping.
ok, im not a big help if there is any bug, but i could imagine that the ST version of csb was simply harder...the amiga-version included the magic map, too...

Re: Stamina problems
If you reincarnate your characters in csb4win, your stats are just haved!
In CSB it was this way in the original game but not in DM, and CSB4Win was designed for CSB, not DM. So it will halve your stats in DM while the original game didn't. That's why they want sleep.
But we knew this, didn't we?

Oops... well, that's news for me, at least.
Sorry for bringing up that old thread again, but it sure is an unpleasant surprise. No wonder my party is wheezing through lvl 3, chased by worms and dropping from exhaustion and hunger... Or is it just me being stupid? This hasn't been fixed in the current version of CSBwin, has it?? I suppose it's in that famous stack of cards...
What other fixes have been planned? Is CSBwin still being developed? Are we ever going to have war cry and horn sounds? Will we ever be able to knock on the walls to hear if there's a secret room?

"We're all gonna die!"
if you go to the csb for windwos/csbuild forum near the bottom, the first thread has a link to the newest releases ...so yup. there are new releases, and yes, one of the fixes is the knocking on walls
a new dungeon that will show you exactly how far you can push the current engine called conflux will be released...at some point...so look out for it!
not sure about the stamina thing...if you still have a newer party with less stamina, try using lower level options - why chop when you can swing, etc...leave the stamina for that important 'running' thing

CSBWin is very brilliant, but you might have also a look upon RTC at www.ragingmole.com , another version of DM for windows which I also find very brilliant. Just have a look and compare what's the more fun for you (probably you'll end up liking both).

Most definitely RTC and CSBwin are in development; George is working on the next release V0.27 - look in the appropriate thread for news. Paul is compiling new release for CSBwin once or twice a week if he receives suggestions or bug reports; currently Zyx is the one driving this a lot - the link to the download site of the latest versions is: http://www.dianneandpaul.net/CSBwin/.
Tapping on walls. horn of fear and war cry are all available in RTC; for CSBwin Paul lately added the tapping (though the code for fake walls is not fully integrated so you hear the sounds no matter what walls you tap), horn of fear and war cry would have to be requested (again, think we had it before). Look in the appropriate threads and ask Paul for it.
