Please help me start playing

Post by Steve »

I loved playing DM on my Amiga when I used to live in England and just found the PC version on this site. However I can't get it working right. I downloaded the rar file and decompressed it with winrar3.10. But when I reboot in dos at the C:\Windows> prompt when I type DM I get a bad file message. I can run the game from windows but if I try for sound all I get is a screech and playing with no sound just isn't the same. Please help me!!

Download the latest version of WinUAE:

http://www.winuae.net

Get the Amiga Kickstart ROMs and get the ADF disk files off this site. It's much easier than messing about with DOS and you get sound. I like the Amiga version better than the PC version anyway.

You need to download directX, which you can get from:

If all else fails, you can run the Atari version by
downloading CSBwin. It is a native, self-contained
Windows program that uses the original Atari graphics
file, dungeon description file, and a rather precise
translation of the origianl code. It is therefore
just like the original. Unpack it and double-click on
the DM-Atari shortcut and you are playing.

There are additional features like being able to cast
magic using the keyboard but you need not use any
features if you want to be true to the origianl.

I have taken the liberty of moving the sound
problem over to the CSB for Windows and Linux
forum. See me there.

I recommend playing the RTC version of Dungeon Master end Chaos Strikes Back, which is a completely anew programmed version of DM+CSB for Windows. It is available at http://www.ragingmole.com
