Looting the Champions
Hi, just came across the site earlier, I never realised that that there were this many people that were still interested in DM. Anyhow, there are people here who obviously know much more about DM than I do, but I haven't heard anyone mention the Champion Looting. (if you have, my apologies for repeating old info).
I was playing the game about 4 or 5 years ago on (I think) an Amiga emulator for the PC. Anyway, by complete accident I found that if you chose 1 champion than killed him (walking into a wall, fireball, etc.) you could still walk around, but now you could step into the champions portraits and on the floor was that champions equipment. You could pick the equipment up and throw it across the room. You then choose another 3 champs and take your choice of gear from where it had landed on the floor.
Has anyone else ever done this?
Well I hope this provides some interest and that I haven't repeated what somebody else has already said :0)

Re: Looting the Champions
Nice. First I've heard about this Dungeon Master "bug". I'll try it on the amiga version.
Re: Looting the Champions
Hmmm. Just tried it but it didn't work. Picked one champion killed him by walking into a wall and.... game ends. Tried this on the Amiga version of Dungeon Master using WinUAE. The bug didn't appear in version 2.0 or the later version 3.6. This must must be an AtariST DM bug and not an Amiga one.

Re: Looting the Champions
I tried this with Dungeon Master for PC v3.4, Amiga v2.0 and v3.6, Atari ST v1.0 and v1.1 and it did not work with any of these versions...
Has anybody succeeded in doing this?

The bug i know, if i rememebr it correctly, is you try to kill yourself with one champuion while in a second mirror (poison, etc)
If you die in the mirror, you exit and become a 'ghost', ad as said can walk around and hroguh things, through walls, and so on.
As for looting mirrors, you can always edit the dungeon so portraits are mounted on imaginary walls - they still work and you can steal to your heart's contnet!

Was unable to (permenantly) kill off ian_scho (Haynuus), Ameena, oh_brother (Westian), money (Falkor), raixel (Petal) and Lord_Bones (Aurek) in the DM D&D game Time's Champions!
CONGRATULATIONS TO THOSE WHO MADE THE GAME WHAT IT WAS - GREAT!

Re: Looting the Champions
You will be happy to know that such antics
cause CSBwin to crash. Is that a 'bug' or
a 'feature' in CSBwin?

Re: Looting the Champions
I would call it an anti-cheat 'feature' : )

Re: Looting the Champions
This bug is amazing, you can even go downstairs as a " ghost ".
So it would be possible to start the game with the firestaff !
Also interresting is that, when you loot zed's torch it's always burning, even in the inventory !

Re: Looting the Champions
How exactly do you get this bug? Do you choose a character and stay still in front of the mirror to kill yourself or can you move around? A very detailed bug report would be nice. :)
Re: Looting the Champions
Ok, i'll try with my bad english :
You choose one character.
Than you reduce his / her hp with walking against walls .
Now stand before another mirror and cast a poison cloud !
Than quickly go into the mirror and die ( poison cloud ).
Now your character is killed, but you can still play on and leave the mirror with cancel.
Now you can walk through walls and if you walk through a mirror you can loot the champions items !
I hope this is readable ! ;-)

Re: Looting the Champions
Excellent! It worked!!
Thanks Sral, well explained. :)
I used Tiggy to cast a level 2 poison cloud spell. After I was killed I was able to walk around and through the walls. You can pick things up and monsters don't even attack you. Though they can see you. This is the funniest DM bug I've ever seen. Although I've noticed that the game does crash if you wander out of the main map area. I did see the alternate ending of the game for the first time using this "ghost cheat". I just walked through the wall behind Iaido and there was Lord Order ready to blow me to kingdom come. He failed of course but kept trying despite me standing there grinning at him. The poor deluded fool!. :D

Re: Looting the Champions
Somehow this is nice... Maybe you could enable it for CSBwin with a command line parameter? ;)

Re: Looting the Champions
Yes, somehow it does make sense: The Sacrifice of a Life in exchange for treasure...
But CSBWin should either emulate this, offer an option to emulate it, or not emulate it at all. It should definitely not crash when trying to do this.

Re: Looting the Champions
I like the possibility as an extra feature - never tried it so far and since I play with CSBwin a lot it would be a bonus to see it there...
