winning DM

Post by plook »

Ok, so I'm trying to wipe out this chaos dude by getting him in this flux cage and then invoking him. i do it a few times then he gets away and then kicks the crap out of me.

what is the trick to finishing.

I've been trying to finish this game since 1997. I had it on my atari and I bought it on ebay for $5 and I want to finish the dam thing before I die.

thanks

try trapping him by having his back facing a wall, a wall on either his left or right side, and a flux cage on the opposite side of the left or right wall, then try invoking him again.

this is how I did it. try this method and see if it works the same way.

fill as much space as possible wih fluxcages. the has to be a fluxcage at each space AROUND lord chaos, not on the one where he actually is.
use the firestaff to wipe out the demons, then recover. the hunt lord chaos down. try warcrying him, if you have decent priests.
if you dont find him, try destroying the flames, he sometimes hides in them.

You're getting confused: you don't INVOKE him, you FUSE him.

Yes, Gambit is right, that's probably the problem. The conditions are 1) every tile immediately adjactant to the tile Chaos is upon, that means every tile north, east, south or west of him, has to be either a solid wall or a fluxcage-field AND you have to use the FUSE option from the firestaff while standing upon one of those adjactant tiles.

Since fluxcages do last a while, but not forever it is wise to use as many natural walls as possible in the process. I used to first to go in without the powergem, kill all demons and black flames (be sure not to step on a generator trigger after that) and then go out again to prepare against Chaos, you know, storing supplies & potions, resting, doping (all attributes 255), shielding, spells ready and so on. Then I lured Chaos near the small chamber northeast, fled into it, closed the doors, filled 2 tiles with fluxcages but ledt a path open to the northeastern corner of the room, opnened the door, lured him in, filled the rest of the chamber with fluxcages after he went in and fused him when he was cornered northeast. If he doesn't behave use psychical weapons like warcry or blow against him to push him around (beware: Chaos is more fear-resistant in the "Return to Chaos"-clone than in the original game, just in case you should come across that).

Everything said, now banish Him!

Lunever:

That is a good explanation but it is not EXACTLY right. You might
have a monster, for example, on one side of Chaos. The code was not
too clear but it seems that Chaos can only jump two squares. So
therefore, let us say, that to the north of Chaos is the party itself.
Then Chaos could jump over the party. But if there was a wall
north of the party then that escape route would be closed and
only three fluxcages would be needed. Does that make sense?

At any rate, the original code appeared to be flawed. What I wrote
into CSBwin is the rule I have described.

I am sure I have fused Chaos without any fluxcages by trapping him in a certain alcove. Or maybe I used one...

my best time in fusing chaos is ~15 seconds from the stairs ;)
i simply shielded my party (which wasnt necessary), looked for him, casted fluxcages like crazy - and FUSE.
doping stats to 255 and all the training you did throughout the game is NOT needed, if your firestaff-wielder can stand a fireball, thats enough by far. boots of speed are appreciated :)

Well, I know that it's not needed, and I don't do so nowadays. But when I fused him for the very first time years ago I took all possible precautions and finally succeeded. So for someone who is not as experienced and has difficulties to fuse Chaos so far it might serve to take those precautions also, because the additional power they give the party might in the end be futile against Chaos, but they may buy the party a bit of time by making it more resistant to some blows that might otherwise cause severe injury.

If you fluxcage like mad, Chaos tends to teleport again and again till he's at the other end of the room. Best way is to use the little room in the corner, get him in the far corner and fluxcage the OTHER 3 squares then fuse. That should work. Just make sure you've got rid of all the demons as they tend to creep up when least expected if you let them live...

He says:
"It's good to know some people like this game like I do; I hope I can finish it someday (I'm on level 10); I have it since 1996.
I haven't been able to beat the game in all those years because I'm learning English."
I think he just wanted to say hello and didn't find a gold book.
