need help with skullkeep

Post by Yoda »

I have the Dm2 Skullkeep cd, and I keep trying to install it on my Windows PC. It seems to work fine, until I run it, and then it shows the FTL icon, and sometimes the title screen, but then it immediately shuts of, and the program ends. Anybody have any help for this?

Wrong forum: Please go to the Dungeon Master II forum on this site, just 2 positions below the Dungeon Master I forum!

But to answer your question: I remember that I had the same error when trying to play DM2 first. But then I removed it completely, installed it again and added the patch from this site.
Then you have to use the setup.exe first before you try to run the game for the first time. The setup tool is very old and has problems with various sound devices, so choose no sound at all when you enter the setup first (can't be chosen again after you have chosen any other sound device), so you can check, whether the game itself is working properly before you try to enable your sound.
Then you start the game. To do so, do NOT execute the skulkeep.exe, but the dm2.bat which contains the proper line to start the game: "IBMIOP SKULL.EXE +VS +GLG"
You might add a proper mouse driver and so on via the editor at the beginning of that dm2 batch file.

On my PC, this game runs in real-dos mode, not in windows.

Ah yes, I forgot to mention that: I've been running it in Win98, which created a file that starts the dm2.bat in dos mode, of course.
