Need some help (DMBuilder)

Post by _Christopher »

I've done about all I can on my dungeon through Dmute and I'm ready to work on it through DMbuild. Every time I try to load the dungeon (Dmsave.dat) I get the Illegal opperation message. After getting the error, I changed the filename.txt to read Dmsave.dat instead and I still get the bad message. Can the program only load Dungeon.dat files? What am I doing wrong?

DMBuild only reads dungeon.dat files. It doesn't recognize the savefile format.
There are 2 solutions:
you have a good knowledge of hexa and dungeon file format, and you can extract the dungeon part of your savegame, then load it as a normal dungeon within DMBuild. Save it and paste it back in the savegame file.
If you can't extract the dungeon and can't wait, I may do it for you.
Or you wait one week so that I make a nth patch that can read savegame format and write it (though no more specific editing will be provided).

Okay, I know the information is in the download somewhere, but I can't find it. Can someone please answer this simple/stupid question for me. How do I go from one level to another?

page up/down
you can add/resize levels by...oh, it's in the notes somewhere : )
Was unable to (permenantly) kill off ian_scho (Haynuus), Ameena, oh_brother (Westian), money (Falkor), raixel (Petal) and Lord_Bones (Aurek) in the DM D&D game Time's Champions!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THOSE WHO MADE THE GAME WHAT IT WAS - GREAT!

NOT WORKING! DMBuildv0.85Sigma will certainly load and save a dmsave.dat file, however it becomes invalid if you try to load it again. I have tested this twice using different dmsave.dat files and both became invalid. Please fix this problem or tell me what I'm doing wrong.

On a lighter side, I have one suggestion so far. It seems that you can currently only increase/decrease Monster levels (changing their health) by intervals of 1. There should be buttons to allow you to increase/decrease the level by intervals of 10 and 100 as well. If I want a couple strong Giant Wasps in a room, it gets tiresome to pound away at the keyboard until I reach level 115 or whatever.

Mmmhh .. when I tested, I did not found problem of invalid dungeon. Best thing to do is to send me the dmsave.dat files (before, and after its passage with DMbuilder).

For the monster levels, that's right it only increase/decrease by one. Because this was designed to make 'standard' monsters.
Your suggestion can be added. It should appears in key-form until the next engine of DMBuild is done.

I will have to find a new letter for the patch version.

I can't find access to your email anywhere. Could you please provide it for me to send you the files?

I sent them by email and BTW, my computer is stuck in the year 1997, so you may have to look at the bottom of your received email to find it. Thanks.

Is there generally a problem with providing an email list of people here willing to give them? Not that I actually think it's needed often, but I sort of like the approach in cowsmanaut's forum that you can view the memberlist and use available data anybody is giving freely for emails or requests very quickly.

A couple more DMBuild questions:

How do I switch door type?

Is it possible to make a level always light like the Hall of Champions?

Setting the "difficulty level" to zero makes the level light.

Yes, the "difficulty level" (or "depth") must be set to zero for constant light. In DMBuilder, you must enter the level specifications screen (hit F2), then hit TAB in order to modify the depth. Use left/right arrows to cycle the value.

Also remember that you MUST NOT place any monster in a level that contains champions mirror (I mean with champion inside mirror). This rules is valid only for DM. In CSB, I think it doesn't matter.

For door, still in the specifications screen you choose the 2 types of door you want for the level. In the map screen, select the door, lock it with ENTER, and hit SPACE for switching its type.
