Questions about options in CSBWin/one more difference
I like to listen to mp3/wma's a lot on my computer while I do other things...is there any way I can play CSBWin without sound? Obviously I don't want to mute the sound for my whole computer, just for when I play DM.
Also, what is "Extra Ticks"? I never could figure that one out, and never saw anything written about it.
Oh, and one last tiny difference between CSBWin DM and the original Atari ST DM: The entrance door to the dungeon has a much heartier, lower pitched sound effect than all of the doors in the dungeon. The CSBWin version just uses the same sound as all the doors in the dungeon.

I'm assuming you have an older computer/sound card? Most modern sound cards have multiple channels so that more than one program can access the sound hardware at the same time - so playing CSBWin with sound AND MP3s would be fine. I do it all the time.
Anyway, how can you play DM/CSB without sound? That's half the atmosphere!

Playing DM without sound
OK, let me clarify. I am running CSBWin on a very modern machine, 2.4GHz Dell Inspiron 5100 notebook to be more precise. Yes, there is absolutely no problem for the computer to play all kinds of sounds at once from multiple programs running simultaneously....and this is exactly what I'm trying to prevent!
I just wondered if I can mute DM without muting my mp3s as well. I asked this because I was unable to find a "Sound: Off" feature in CSBWin. I'd like to simply listen to my music while playing DM, and not have any sound from DM rudely "mixing in" with my music.

PS And I still have not figured out what "Extra ticks" means.

See the following thread for details about the "extra ticks":

AFAIK you can use it to play for an "optimized" time, i.e. it is used if you attempt to beat one of the records in the competitions (Race for the Ful Ya pit etc...)
I could not find any option to turn of the sound, maybe there is a parameter that Paul Stavens has built in, best to ask him directly via email.

I never have music on whilst playing DM (unlike Diablo II which I accompany with loud rock music) - the sounds are too important and as previously mentioned it does have a rather special atmosphere.
Most soundcards come with an advanced volume control that allows you to alter the relative volumes of the WAVE, MIDI, CD and LINE IN inputs. In XP this in invoked by clicking on the volume control icon in the bottom right (if it is not there it can be added in Control Panel).
To have music and no game sound, you should tick the "mute" box under WAVE.
