Crash playing Conflux 2, CSB Win 96 ver 4

Post by Gambit37 »

Version: CSB Win 96 ver 4
Dungeon: Conflux 2, ver 2.h

Playing Conflux 2, I have reached the Circus. CSB Win crashed out while looking across at the invisible teleporter that stops the party crossing into the slaves area. The first time it happened, I was simply walking back and forth around this area, and received an error message -- something like "Illegal object index".

I relaoded the save game, and this time threw an item into the teleporter -- it kept jumping back and forth and eventually CSB Win crahsed with the same error.

However, I exited completely, reloaded and started again, and now I can't re-create the error. I had been playing the previous game for some time -- maybe the databases got messed up or something?

Most unfortunate. If you would always turn on the
recording then we could almost assuredly recreate
whatever problems occur. ConfluxII is very definitely
a test of CSBwin.

Hmm... the logs have been recorded automatically, but I have lots in the logs folder, and I haven't a clue which one relates to the crash -- is there a quick way of finding out?

I've also been overwritng my save games, so I guess with out the correct one (which I no longer have), the playlogs wouldn't work anyway?

As I suspected everything went out of synch.

Presumably, I can combine all the playback logs from number 000 up to the position of the crash -- this would give you the complete game I've played up to that point, yes?

I'll give it a go...

EDIT: Oh dear, it doesn't account for CSBWin being started and stopped -- I assume it's because the entrance Enter/Resume button is added to the log so obviously it'll get out of sequence.

Any way of editing out those particular commands?

Or is it because CSBWin doesn't generate save games when playing from a log?

I posted the program that splices log files.

You put in in the folder with all the logs and tell it
what the last log file was. The one that
caused the crash. Then it finds the partenm the
grandparent, etc. All the way back to the beginning
if possible.

The program is at
dianneandpaul.net/CSBwin
and is named CSBSplice.exe.

CSBSplice without parameters should provide hints.

Now it is not likely to work. It has not been kept up-
to-date. But I can make it work. It is much more
complicated than appending the files. And if you
used more than one version of CSBwin to play
then it gets hard.

We need to either:
1) Ship the logs to me.
2) Get together in a more intimate way...like
on mIRC or something. Someone had an mIRC
Dungeonmaster chatroom going once upon a time.
3) I can give you space on my website to post them
if they are too big to mail.

Making CSBSplice work is a worthy exercise. Especially if
we can use it to fix a problem in ConfluxII.

That was the information I would have needed. So thanks for stating it clearly now. Gambit: Had the same problem while playtesting once, never occurred again. Beo said he also experienced it. Zyx said it should be fine with the then-next version and it never re-occurred so I marked it as solved... until your post.

Do any of these problems still need attention?

From my point of view, no, since the problem only ever ocurred once and was not reproducable. Zyx may know more about the reasons for it to manifest in the first place.

Indeed, the crashes were a) the pit crash, and b) the demon generator crash, both of which you received and adjusted the engine for, no problems since then

gambit'scrash...anything to do with the teleporters and gigglers i nthe circus? i rememebr you used to be able to get hangs there if a monster hit to teleporters always on...or somehting...
