DM Graphics Ripping
I want to try make Dungeon Maker look almost perfect to Dungeon Master so i need to extract all the graphics from the PC version or RTC.
Anyone able to tell me how i can extract the graphics, i've tried some of the tools on dmweb but the colours are all messed up on the monsters.
Is there any way to extract the graphics.dat from RTC?
Thanks for any help
Also is there any way to play RTC in a window?

Re: DM Graphics Ripping
hi, MadMunky.
i'll be able to help you.
concretely, developing version of DMGHL library extracts creature images with correct color. and it's sample displays the extracted images from DMGHL library as a bitmap image and two mask images.
i can just tweak the sample to save the images as bitmap files.
however it takes some days for tweaking of special release. if you hurry, please find other way...
about correct palette? in the old days, i had taken much screen shots from running DM on DOS under Windows NT. i just imported the palette for DMGHL library.
i've added 2 screen shots to DMGHL screen shot page: members.at.infoseek.co.jp/danmasu/Tool_DMGHL.htm

Here's a link to the graphics for PC Dungeon Master -- with all the correct palettes.
George, you might like this too as it has some stuff here that you don't have correclty in RTC, such as the Amalgam/Power Gem graphics.

Re: DM Graphics Ripping
sorry. i have not planned to support CSB version.
because i have not ever played CSB well and i don't analyze the detail system spec.
if there is request, in long range plan, i'll be able to add support.
but i cannot reailize it right away like prior special release.

about some files
hi.
some files previously i had published seem to be available at my file space: homepage3.nifty.com/kkdf/
that site is not for permanent use, i'll closed it in proper time.
when reconvery of Encyclopaedia forum, i'll be going to ask Christophe to host their files for permanent use.

Hi, thanks for the links -- I downloaded the files and have had a look at them.
Will you add DM2 for SEGA CD to the supported formats for GRAPHICS.DAT in your DM2AE ripper? It would be very useful as there are some great graphics in this version which aren't in the Amiga or PC versions.
I have the GRAPHICS.DAT from USA, Europe and Japanese versions if you need them.

about sega ver
hi.
i'm sorry to notify you that current dm2ae cannot support sega ver due to dm2ae's structure issue. almost all rewriting required to add support for them.
although dm2ae is much obsoleted about its programming design spec and has very difficulty against extension, incoming dm2gded will allow you to take a look at images in sega version (that tool doesn't have massive export feature like dm2ae).
dm2gded is a tool (for Win32) to make modification against DM2 GRAPHICS.DAT.
currently, dm2gded completed private release tests and just leaves some tweaks for public release.

I have tested dm2gded and I can tell you it is worth the wait! It is compatible with all the platforms/versions of DMII graphics.dat.

Cool, cool, cool! I'd like to try and hack the PC version with the Sega CD creature images as they are less cartoony. FTL designed these first, then redesigned the graphics for the PC version, and then stuck half the new ones into the Amiga version. It explains why the Amiga version has massively inconsistent creature styles.

Are there any tools that can read the graphics.dat of the X68000 version?
I have tried using Rain's DMextract, and kentaro's DMHGL and other variations, but none of them can handle the X68000 format.
Presumably ther's something quite different about this one (I think it's compressed differently as the file is a lot smaller than most other versions).

The graphics.dat file I have from DM for X68000 is 332785 bytes long. So it is not really smaller than others. I have not tested this file with other tools, but it can be decoded with the my script available here (DM, CSB and DM2 Data Files and Animations Decoders v0.8 for PC):

I fixed the link, it was broken. Noone never reported it, so I guess only a few people downloaded it from the forum...
