I'm making a map and trying to put writing on the walls and on a scroll but when I test it the writing comes out in runes how do I fix this problem?

What version of Dungeon Master are you trying to edit?

If it is RTC, then there is a whole forum for RTC questions below. Let me know so that I can move your post to the right place.

You need to make your text in CAPITAL LETTERS.

lowercase letters (like this) show up as runes on scrolls and walls.

Yep - Gambit is exactly right. Upper case letters in the text file come out as upper case letters in the dungeon (either for walls or scrolls...or probably character names and anywhere else text appears). Lower case ones come out as runes with each letter mapping to their rune equivalent in the same way that they appear on the spell casting menu in the game (and in the spell book). i.e. as follows:

a,b,c,d,e,f "Lo" to "Mon"
g,h,i,j,k,l "Ya" to "Zo"
m,n,o,p,q,r "Ven" to "Gor"
s,t,u,v,w,x "Ku" to "Sar"
