Has anybody ever tried to play DM or CSB with just one caracter ? would it be too dificult ? would it be FUN ???? playing DM2 with just Torham was too easy , but i think the game is allready too easy compared to CSB. You get a Super-Hero with everything max-out...
This has been done before....in fact it used to be a contest for the CSBwin program(which was made by Paul Steven who is one of the board members here).
There should be some movies that you can d/l here..I forget where but i'll look for them for you when I get back from work.
I tend to pick one character for dungeons unless I'm playtesting or think i'm going to be killed within the first thrity seconds : )
You get all the experience, all the food, and can dodge spells - only negatives are lack of carrying capacity and less mana/melee potential
warcry the first screamer until you are novice or apprentice in fighter and priest. afaik fighter-levels only work in dm, not in csb.
and yes, i did. halk rocks, i think he is a bit underrated.
stamm was my my favourite character, so i usually went with stamm for the single player. since i don't tend to train then he doesn't realy kick in with the big magic til much later!
Magical training apparatus - moonstone, rarely teowand, and vorpal blade.
as far as i'm concerned the weaker health/stamina characters like tiggy are the bigger challenge - after all a fireball only goes so far : ) Though of course being able to create potions form the start is a nice bonus
So the best player would be Stamm with resurrect to cut all the stats (can't really rember). Would it be possible to still swipe some objects from the other images (with space bar, i think) for example the moonstone and swords ?
" Never Fear Death, Embrace It As You Embrace Darkness... "
Yes, ressurect will give you some more health as you zoom through the fighter levels again
space bar only works with DM 2. but there is a 'ghost bug' for raiding
However, there is no need to raid as it's easy enough to get objects in DM for playing as is
But with just one caracter in DM with it not become more dificult ? i use magic A LOT, and starting with a guy with no magic would really change my way around the game...
but that's a good thing though, right? see the dungeon from a new perspective...
and no, the concentrated experience you gain for every single action means your character becomes very powerful - especially if you start punching some of the slow moving denezins like rock monsters rather than waste time on sword blows. you can train in areas too using less food to gain magic if you start to miss it
If your stamina is too low when you sleep, you'll start losing points on some attributes. Make sure you top up your stamina, and also your vitality to prevent this from happening. Characters who have low vitality and are hungry will take damage when their stamina falls below 0. You shouldn't get damage while sleeping from anything else (unless something whacks you over the head of course!)
Large mana with low stamina is the worst combination - mana regeneration takes alot of your stamina while recharging, so if your characters are starving you can easily find yourself taking damage while sleeping
Yeah, but most of the mages come like that in the beginning of the game (large mana with low stamina) that's why i started playing with the guys with most raw power/stamina... They develop magic as they go along to get a good warrior/mage/priest combo
i sleep very often - you don't get problems with stamina, if you train your characters as ninjas. craftsman or artisan should be fine for a large enough pool.
That's the thing, i dont really have the pacience (or finger strengh) to train them as ninjas, rather as priest, as that also raises the stamina. I sleep a lot and to minimize the weight carried i always leave most of the stuff at the beginning of the level (on top of the stairs)... eerrrr, except of course the giggler level...
Let's say im a very "hands-on" (or in this case "swords-on") kinda guy besides, i there's nothing a bow/knife/shuriken can do that a good FireBall won't do better
I discovered RTC only very recently. I am currently playing my first 1-character game. Halk being my charcter of choice. My thinking was, that he would last the longest in a bad situation. I did face Stone Piles in a dead end twice already. Both times the Warcry saved me, a skill I did not use in my earlier Dungeon Master games somewhen in the 90ies. The Horn of Fear seems even better, because the monsters keep running, while I throw things and spells after them.
I did not want to wait until I find the Moonstone, so I "robbed" the one from another champion and killed her off before going into the dungeon. I am in the midst of lvl5 (snakes) and I do not need to carry any torches, which is a real good thing with the limited carrying space.
I am applying ninja, warrior or wizard attacks depending on monster type. Screamers and Mummies get punched and kicked for example, while I rather throw than melee the Stone Piles.
Rock piles give large damage, but as long as you have the priest levels to restore yourself I find punching them yields fastest results. But agreed, other larger melee options are far too slow
Seeing how well it works after some practice, I wonder if a stealthy approach to the game is viable. You know: Avoid melee as much as possible; Scare monsters away or freeze them to bypass them; If they have to be killed, do it with ranged weapons. Spells of choice would be Invisibility and Poison Cloud. Hmm, after completing the game with Halk, I will give that a try.
Yes, there are a few rare times you actually need to directly kill something, and even then as you say a ranged apprach can work just as well - true assassin style.
Screamers yield best to thrown weapons, and don't leave poison bolt from your magic arsenal, you'll find it also affects some creatures more as well as being less mana to cast
