*** DOWNLOAD LATEST CSBWIN & CSBUILD HERE ***
Many complete, stable games are available in neat
self-contained packages at:
http://www.dianneandpaul.net/CSBwin/Games/
Experimental versions for experts are also available.
For ease of use, here's the link to Paul's web-space where you can download the latest versions of CSB for Windows/Linux and CSBuild.
http://www.dianneandpaul.net/CSBwin/
The above directory is unsorted and contains all the latest test engines and upgrades for bugs reported and features suggested by CSBwin users. The lastest stable release of CSBwin/CSBuild containing all the files needed to run the game is still the one available from the encyclopaedia.
Note that sometimes the newest Csbwin/Csbuild will reside in a zip package that is highlighting a new feature. Always check the date codes for newest files. It is always best to use matching (ie latest) CSBwin and CSBuild files.
Preferably don't download an engine unless you have read the forum thread referencing it so you know the assocaited features and potential problems.

I posted CSBwin 9.6p and CSBuild 8.807. You will have
to try the invulnerable feature yourself and let me know
if it seems not to work.
=============================================
Version 0.807
--Allow Monster Hitpoints to be greater than 32767.
--Provide for invulnerable Monsters by setting Hitpoints
to 65535.
--Provide 'one-click' movement of objects from one corner
of an open room to another. If you like it I can do it for
Walls, also.
--Allow searches for monsters.
--In the Level Info Dialog we now show the number of each
type of monster on the level and also the number of Monster
Generators for each Monster type.
--Add Context help capability for Level Info Dialog.
===========================================
Version 9.6p
--Pause during playback
--If Monster Hitpoints == 65535 then the monster is invulnerable.
This has not been tested at all!
--Notification when playback is complete and player regains control.

Hi Paul, thank you for the new functions!
The one-click movement is really useful. Please make it available for the walls too. And you should mention that a right-click will give some menu options. Unaware users would never guess it otherwise.
The scroll finding: the dialog look good. One of the option should be set by default (I guess the AND option). And the three kind of texts selected by default. I assume it doesn't work because you haven't finished yet.
Finding monsters: it works great! You should hide the "operated by" check when the monster is selected. Unless you plan pushbuttons to be able to be triggered by monsters, about which I would not complain...
Immortal monsters: healing a monster like fireballing a black flame set them to 1000Hp. after that they can die normally. Which is a very interesting effect. You can only kill what you first healed. (remember what Gandlaf said to one of the hobbits in the moria? Something like "if you can give life to epople, don't take it away so hastily from others", talking about Gollum - I don't have the text at hand-). But you probably want to fix this bug. Apart from that, it seems to work fine.

I tried to convert my dungeon with CSBuild and it worked perfectly (well, i have to play it through more than loading it up and walkign aroudn for a level, but seeemed fine) - all the options were of course, set to 'allow' so i'll see later if the engine likes it
The only thing that did happen were all the scrolls were deleted, claiming they had illegal text - what would be the problem with this?

I posted CSBuild version 0.809. Let me know if
it did not fix your scroll problems.
============================================
Version 0.809
--Fix problem that caused us to drop Scrolls because of
illegal text index. We were looking at some unused bits.
We should only have used bits 0-9, not the whole word.
it did not fix your scroll problems.

I downloaded DMAlt1051.zip. It contained a DMSave.dat.
I used CSBuild 0.809 to load it. I set all 'Allow' options
in the Edit|options dialog. It loaded without any error
messages.
So either we have different dungeon files (That is why I
like people to send me the dungeon they are using.....spending
an hour only to find we are talking about different files
is very frustrating) or we are using different versions of CSBuild
(that is why I like peole to say what version they are using)
or else we are doing something different or else we are
seeing something different. I don't even know what error message
you are seeing or whether the problem is in the gameplay or what.
So I am going to need a very explicit bug report before I can
proceed.

I posted CSBuild 0.810 and CSBwin 9.6r.
Someone said that putting clothing in a monster's
possessions caused a "Unknown Name" error. I
cannot make it happen. So I need more details
==============================================
Version 0.810
--Support search for text in walls, floors, and scrolls.

Version 9.6r
--Attempt to correct wall-tapping. Non-blocking Trick Wall
no longer causes tapping sound.

It depends on whom the "you" in your question refers to.Which files do you nee to download?
If you are asking what I need to download then the answer
is "Nothing at the moment". If the "you" refers to yourself
then the answer depends on what you want to do. If you
want to play CSB or DM on a Windows machine then version
9.6 from the QuickLinks will do very nicely, without any
upgrades. If you want to play ConfluxII on a PocketPC
then the answer is different. If you want to retouch some
old photographs then the answer is even more different yet.

I posted version 9.7 on dianneandpaul.net/CSBwin.
You will find CSBexe97.rar and CSBsrc97.rar
I will let Cristophe know that they are here but he may not
wish to put them on the Encyclopaedia because they do not
support Linux or macintosh platforms. There is absolutely no
advantage to having the new version if you only want to
play the original DM or CSB games.
The release comes with a DM movie and a CSB movie. They caused
me no end of bugs and memory leaks due to their having the 'Repeat'
option specified. But solving the 'repeat' problem solved much of the
problem of someday providing a 'Restart' menu option that someone
once requested (don't remember who or why).

I released version 1.59 of CSBuild to
dianneandpaul.net/CSBwin
A terrible problem has been fixed. When you edit a chest (or a
monster, I think) you see a list of contents (or possessions). If
you 'Cancel' (or equivalently press the little 'x' in the upper right
corner), each item of contents get copied from the first item in the
list. So that an 'apple', 'dagger', and 'boots' would become three
apples.
Added ability to search for chests.
Added code to consider Portrait 'Obituary' messages when checking
triggers for actuators.

I released version 1.60 of CSBuild in CSBuild160.rar
and version 9.8v9 of CSBwin in Size4Demo.rar.
These implement DSA functions to Get/Set the
Cursed, Broken, and Charges of objects in the dungeon.
As requested by Zyx (you probably guessed that).
Size4Demo demonstrates this capability. Removes the
curse from any object.

It works, thanks!
&getcharges, &setcharges, &getcurse and &setcurse don't show correctly in the trace.
Are there other operations like broken, poisonned and lighted? (if yes, they're not descripted in the DSA help). I found no example in the dungeon of the size4 demo by the way, but the syntax of the new operations was so simple that I understood it.
In CSBwin, when examining an object (with the eye), you can only know wether it is cursed in the case it's a weapon or a cloth. The other objects (in particular misc) don't show this information.
I know this is the way FTL did it. But we can reasonnably assume that's because they only planned cursed weapons and armors by the time.
Would it be difficult for you to make the information for a misc item as much complete as for a weapon? (weapons have info about : cursed, broken and poisonned)

I'm always happy to get it to work. I forget these things.&setcurse don't show correctly in the trace.
Forgot to put in the new dungeon.dat. SorryI found no example in the dungeon of the size4 demo
Here are the things I know about. Some are nver used, I believe. Are there other operations like broken, poisonned and lighted
Weapons - Charges, Inprotant, Cursed, Broken, Poisoned, Lighted
Clothing - Important, Cursed, Broken
Potions - Strength, Important
Misc - Important, Cursed, Value
Who knows what they were thinking?????But we can reasonnably assume that's because they only planned cursed weapons
I'll look into it.information for a misc item as much complete as for a weapon

At dianneandpaul.net/CSBwin you will find:
CSBuild161.rar
Size4Demo.rar
Size4Demo has CSBwin9.8v10 and a program to encrypt files
and a dungeon that demonstrates the encryption.
Changes:
--Hitpoints treated as unsigned so that you can give a creature
more than 32767 hitpoints.
--Encrypt hcsb.hct so that people cannot see it in its entirety or
dump it. (for Zyx) The dungeon file contains the key so you
better encrypt that, too.
--Fix level swapping in CSBuild to update level numbers in level
descriptors. Also detect such errors and offer to repair them. This
fixes the 'Illegal Pits' problem, I believe.

You should try the latest official stable version here:
