Questions about Ekkhard cross and Gem of Ages

OK, as you can see I'm at level 4

I was wondering what was the exact purpose of the Ekkhard cross and Gem of Ages ?

The DM CSB Encyclopaedia mentions this :

 Gem Of Ages 	+1 Skill 13 (Hidden Priest skill)
Ekkhard Cross 	+1 Skill 15 (Hidden Priest skill)

I don't exactly understand how this works... Does it give you 1 extra Experience point each time you use the aforementionned Skill ?

no, your 'hidden skills' govern a certain area of priest, warrior, wizard or ninja talent - so one hidden skill may govern what options your fighter gets with a weapon

so for example put on the gem of ages, and you will see that you an infact cast potions to a higher level than your priest level should normally be able to. you aren't fully gaining a priest level though, just gaining a boost in one section of it
the ekkhard cross i don't know what i governs, but it will be somethign similar
