Just curious

Post by Angelus »

If i was to back up the original files for DM, CSB and RTC (which is no problem)

Can the editor be used to add items to starting characters? or onto the floor of a dungeon level? (ie basic armor for reincarnating characters - as they come into play with nothing in their backpacks)

Can you just add items to a floor space and save the file ? or does other code changing have to be made somewhere?

Thanks in advance to any responses.

yes, you can add starting and dungeon items easily in CSBwin, RTC and PC DM through DMBuild.

Yet - but if you do for a normal game you lose the fun of treasure-hunting. It is absolutely no problem to start with an entire naked party, you will soon have more armor than you need anyway.
But reincarnated characters have the same starting equipment as ressurected ones, at least in DM; only in CSB characters start naked, no matter where they come from and how they've been raised. And if you combine old characters from existing savgames to a new party starting a new game in RTC they are also naked. Characters taken from mirrors always retain their equipment, but there are of course a few characters who just don't have any equipment (like for example Hissssa, Lizar or Makan).

I'm aware that if you select someone from a mirror they retain their items, and if you start someone from the Make New Adventure they start naked.

I tried using the RTC editor , backed up the DM file, and edited the main one (using the GUI) to add a piece of armour, and a weapon etc to a floor square, then saved, but when i ran the game they didnt show up.

Is there something I am doing wrong or something else i'm not doing in addition to this to get my changes to work ?

Or should I be using a different programme?

(I've used the RTC Ed to capture the maps and print them which is ok, but i'm still not sure how this programme can be used to make edits when the edits I've tried making don't save propperly)

Thanks for any help.
