Stats affected at level up?

Post by Rckningday »

First id like to say i was surprised when i found this website and happy. I thought i was the only person who loves dungeon master. Nevertheless ive been playing for years but i was wondering does anyone know how the game determines what stats get affected when you gain a level. I know for example you dont get mana when gaining fighter or ninja levels but what about strength health dexterity and so on. Is there a statistical way the game does this. Thanks guys and long live dungeon master

If you can read C-code, get the source for CSB for windows
(from the DM Encyclopaedia site in the clones area).
Look at the rather short function named AdjustSkills.
They tell me that Dungeon Master and CSB use the same code
for most of this stuff.

Stat gains are variable, and my information is only accurate for DM and CSB. Sometimes you can only get one point or none at all; sometimes it's four or even six depending on your class:

Fighter:

2 strength
1 dexterity
1 vitality OR anti-fire, alternating each level. For example:
Level 1: anti-fire
Level 2: vitality
Level 1: anti-fire
and so on

Ninja:

1 strength
2 dexterity
1 vitality OR anti-fire, alternating each level

Priest:

2 wisdom
2 anti-magic
1 vitality, OR 1 anti-fire, OR 1 vitality AND anti-fire, rotating through each option every level. For example:

Level 1: anti-fire
Level 2: vitality
Level 3: anti-fire AND vitality
and so on

Wizard:
2 wisdom
2 anti-magic
1 vitality OR anti-fire, alternating each level

Note these values are the maximum possible gains I've seen, priest is the only one I ever saw with 6 stat gains in a level. This comes from re-loading the game a lot just before level-up.
