preformatted save game

Post by robert »

cross posted to general forum

I'm dying to play DM again after finding it on this site. Together with Captive, DM was my favourite game for the amiga and it brought out a certain feeling of exitement that very few games can. Only diablo 2 IMO has lived up to the legacy of the sheer fun you get when playing DM :)

However, this site mentions preformatted save games are available on the 'archives'. I can't seem to find the archives, only the news archives, and I couldn't see them there. I can't get fellow to work, so I was hoping to use preformatted saves from here, to enable ongoing DM play.

Please help me out! :)

PS i always thought Halk, Hissssa, Gothmog and Chani was the best combination. I can't wait to go back to playing them again!

Thanks in excited anticipation :D

this is actually a joint-forum site to the encyclopaedia

the pre-formatted games should be available on the encyclopaedia, under the 'DM/play DM section, or under downloads, or soemthign like that = the downloads/play section of each game should give you a link to everything you need top play that version of DM, includign the saved games

Thanks, but all i can see in the downloads section is:

Note:

Formatting save game disks does not work under WinUAE. You must use another emulator like Fellow to do that. Note that the archives on this site contain a preformatted save game disk.

I really hate to think i'm being totally thick, even it looks like I am (obviously no one else has ever had this problem!), but I really cant find any saved games anywhere. They're certainly not on the downloads section and certainly not in the DM section :( At least that I can see...

Beowuuf thanks for your swift responses and help. But:

Hmm...

There's definitely no save game on the encyclopaedia.

the forums on the encyclopaedia are merged with these ones now and searching these forums for something only produced an earlier post from someone else needing a save game with a reply saying go to the encyclopaedia...

*pretty pretty please please* I beg of thee can you give me some more specific help or even the guiding light of a link ? :)

Preformatted savegame

Thanks again for your fast response.

you're right, there are still 3 forums on the encyclopaedia.

New dungeons
Misc Files
general discussion

None of the 3 forums has any posts that even digging through them looks like it has a preformatted save game.

Have you got any further suggestions as to where I may obtain a saved game please?

Many thanks in advance.

lol, damn

umm, then i'm afraid i'm at a loss...you could just do a google search, or try somewhere like underdogs, etc .... I'm sure I had to do this myself at one point...
It's not an actual DM save you need, just an already formated 'disk' file, I believe...I could be wrong...

Sorry, busy just now and so rushing around - if you haven't had success I can try to hunt around on my HD and the net for a pre-formatted DM disk and hosting it if I find it

good luck til then

I'll keep looking and report back!

Simply copy any disk image, rename it to 'Dungeon Master Save.adf' (or any other name you want), mount it in the second drive, and format it in-game using Dungeon Master's format tool :D

Robert, you misunderstood the word "archive" I think.
It does not refer to any web site archive where you could find saved games.
It refers to compressed files (ZIP, RAR, CAB, ...) that are often called archives.

By "Note that the archives on this site contain a preformatted save game disk", I mean that the RAR files that you can download containing the games themselves ALSO contain a formatted floppy disk image that you can use to save your game to.

Thanks for the help, tolerance and patience guys! I'll be able to play DM now :D

However, presently, I have become embroiled in the addiction that is Dungeon Master Java!!! LOL (and big grins - it's great).

Dungeon Master truly holds up after all these years - having a fab time playing the Java version.
