Sound with VDM

Post by RichP »

Hi

Can someone please help me, I recently downloaded VDM to give Dungeon master sound on my PC, I run a win XP system on a P4 processor.

Everything with the game is working fine but when I select Adlib from the start screen i get a noise but no proper sounds from the PC...

Im desperate to start playing this game again (nostalgia trip!) and need the sound.

Can anyone offer any advice?

Thanks, Rich.

I've never been able to configure VDMSound in any shape or form to work with DM. Use DosBox instead, that works perfectly:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/dosbox/

Or you could always download the CSBWin package or even RTC, both native Windows versions of the game -- see the Quicklinks at the top of the page.

Unfortunately the PC version of Dungeon Master used the "Direct DAC" mode of soundcards, a no-no for all modern soundcards even if they claim Sound Blaster compatibility. VDMSound is no help for that mode, but DOSBOX solves this problem, as it emulates completely the hardware of the old PCs.

This might sound stupid but, didn't you download the combi Chaos Strikes/Dungeon Master .rar file?

I downloaded it, installed it, and there is sound without having to download extra sound. I also use XP (on my laptop) and the game works great WITH sound.

If you were talking to me... you are welcome. :)

And I used to play Populous as well. Not sure how much this helps, but here is a great link to a site you might want to check out:

Additional: Just found a site where you can download Populous for the PC: http://www.bhlegend.com/php/show.php3?game=428
