Slow Resting

Post by beget »

Is it just me, or does it seem like sleeping is taking too long time. Stamina at least goes up too slowly, and so seem mana and life. Poison effects seem to also affect slower while sleeping than in the original.
Could the game be speeded somehow in sleep-mode?

I didn't seem to search long enough for answer to this, and found it just a bit later. Still what remains as a question, is that will the resting speed change in the next version or is there a way i could change it myself?
It is just a tad boring, when i tend to sleep only when I'm perfectly safe, and I just want to get my stats back up quickly.

It's not just you. I had the same feeling and almost quit playing before I even beat "DM 1.5" because of this.

Lots of things are different in RTC, and many are programmed to satisfy George's personal tastes. he wanted RTC to be a bit harder than the original and this is one of the attributes that was agonised over for ages. You'll have to convince him it's really bad...... ;)

I won't take much convincing ;-)

Sleeping is one of the things in RTC that I've known to differ unintentionally to DM and I've been meaning to fix it for ages...

Good thing if it will be changed, or at least given an option to put it back to what it was. As i said before, I never sleep when there is a possibility of a creature attackin me, so it just bugs me really badly that i have to spend a long time just getting my mana back. Also it is a real pain when you are boosting your character in original DM's third level (the screamer room). In that point you just want your mana and stamina quickly up, and you don't want to spend a full minute or more just get some mana.

My idea is to make my game, wchich takes a really lot of time (wchich means a lot of food & water), to regenerate stamina, mana and live. That would make a game bit harder (=better). Could there be an option in the editor, wchich SLOWS the effectivity of resting / sleeping by the idea of dungeon designer? Party sleeping could be faster, of course, in the REAL time (not in the game time), not to bore the player waiting to regenerate party, but regenerating (while sleeping) could be slower, wchich means MORE WASTE of food & water for the party, while they are sleeping. For example: fully regenerating party lasts two times quicker than normally in RTC (quicker for the player), but effectiveness of this resting is less (wchich means the party waste more food & water to fully rest).
