GAME: Overbrightness

Post by PTY »

I have a problem with overbrightness. When i cast the FUL spell, then the light goes lighter. But in V0.34, this doesn't stop. That means, every time i cast the FUL spell, the light goes lighter even it is already on full bright. I made a screenshot, which shows the scene after casting many FUL spells. Please take a look:

I don't know, if this is a bug or a "feature", but when i switch STEPLIGHTNING in the config file to YES the problem is gone.

It's a feature ! It's been discussed in a few threads before it was implemented, check the other RTC forums...

To confirm, this is entirely intentional as it seems reasonable behaviour for a light spell (i.e. to make things lighter!) and provides a natural use for the darkness spell (which is otherwise useless in DM / CSB).

The effect is documented in the RTC FAQ:

http://ragingmole.com/RTC/faq.html

and in the manual that came with the game (although I do fully appreciate that no one reads these!).

I have had the brightness go above the "max" that it normally goes to as well. It went so bright I could hardly see anything. I saved it in this state thinking reloading the game would fix it but the save game wont open. I just started a new game instead. Lucky I wasnt to far in. :)

Can you please send me the save game file that won't load and I'll take a look at what the problem is?

Light

Once or twice i had a problem with overbrightness. It goes OVER-TOTAL-WHITE and jumped into total darkness. It was totally dark, I could'nt see a thing, and Light spell faild. Only Darkness helped, reversing the proces and turning the light on. I think it's some caind of integer value error. It happened to me in v0.27, so, once again, I'm not shure is that still a problem.

If you can do it again and send me the save game file (when it's dark, but "should" be very light), I can have a look to see what the internal values are and fix the problem.

I'll try. One more thing - when this hapenned i cast light at the first (namely 0) level of the RTC DM dungeon. As far as i remember, there is light allways on. Mayby this is the reason?
