Retrieve Save Game!

I am using DMWin(CSBWin with DMGraphics) and I made a mistake! Can I retrieve my last save game!?
ARGH

Ok, what I did was got distracted from the dragon then forgot to throw the firestaff and I carried over the close walls spot!!!!!

Nope, though you can just edit the saved games and remove the walls manually using CSBuild

Of course you can if you didn't save twice... Everytime you save, your previous savegame is backed up as CSBgame.bak. Just delete CSBgame.dat and rename CSBgame.bak to CSBgame.dat ! (Mmh, perhaps you should backup CSBgame.dat instead of deleting it straight away... You never know...)

I already tried the .bak game. Didn't work. But I can see if I can get into CSBuild and do that, then I'll be hyper all day, because like my emoticons, I was really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this brings up memories about an old Amiga DM savegame of mine.

It would not load anymore: Invalid savegame .
(THIS would be sth. to put on the encyclopaedia, the screen display when your savegame was corrupt)

I tried it once, got uneasy and paused for a short while , twice, then i screamed, ejected the disk and threw it at the wall.
It exploded in little parts. Quite spectacular, should have filmed that in slow mo.

I used a pal´s savegame. But my party was disintegrated.

I remmeber building up a party (for CSB) and then the save becoming corrupt. Very, very annoying (to put it mildly). I then went, played through DM again, got much better stats, and always made sure I created two saved games! Wow, those were crazy days when you needed a full disk for the DM save, not just save on you HD and carry on

I never really understood why FTL made it one disk per save when the save game file is so small. Another question for the pot!

I never was able to figure this program out!
CSBuild: C:\Program Files\Dungeon Master\Administrator\New Stuff\CSB\CSBbuilder
Game: C:\Program Files\Dungeon Master\Users\ADDF_Toxic\Dungeon Master\Games Being Played\Dugneon Master PC34 win\modules\dungeon master-atari\Original DM
Open up CSBuild: Opens, I press open in File and open my dungeon and:
The Database in the Saved Game file appear Damaged.
What's with Tiggy,
Error reading big-endian...will try little-endian
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
Failure to release DC(That only happened once!)

What's with Tiggy, linflas?

Do you know what might be another solution? Do any of you remember me having to change my game to DMWin from Dungeon Master PC34 b/c armour froze me up? I could do that, but I don't like that level. Waaaaaaaaaaaa(That's a baby crying)! I was so excited when I finally passed it!

I have DMBuild, DMute(which is out of order right now for some odd strange and peculiar reason it keeps on illegeal operationing when I start it up), CSBuild, RTCEditor, and that's all my editors, so if that might help you solve my problem...now what do I say?

That´s peculiar. The whole the WHOLE game was put on one disk one SINGLE disk and for each meagre savegame, you need one , too. Just crazy. They could let you save like four on each disk... think that must have been possible.
On the other hand it´s good. This way you could only loose one save game!

if you cannot load it into csbuild, well... i guess my solution is the only one possible.

You need to tell me what version of CSBuild you are using
and what version of what program wrote the savegame file.
If you have the latest CSBuild it should work. If it does not
work, I will fix it.

Hmmmmmmm! I wonder if CSBuild stopped DMute from working. It's version 1, 0, 0, 1

Another comment. Somehow, posts were added after I posted but shown before. The ones about corrupt. My old ST, we had Dungeon Master and 6 saves for it. One day, we started getting 3 bombs at the SWOOSH of FTL! We just shoved the ST under the steps along with all our books and disks(I didn't throw it against the wall, and I'm glad!) One day, I started thinking about DM again. I walked under the steps and I dug out our manual. That brought back memories, but not enough. I went to the computer and found it for PC using google on dmweb.free.fr. When I saw the entrance to the dungeon, I kicked my dad off the computer! I am surprised how fast I went. We only got to level 6(riddle room) on ST. I whipped right past that and got to level 12, and now Chaos and Dragon(I don't really know which one of those I'm on, I'm on both!)

Hi ManFromAnotherPlace, great to see you on the board! When I got the upgraded Firestaff, I never bothered training my characters any more. In fact, I only get the upgrade for the Firestaff once I am ready to finish the game.

I encountered the Dungeon Master and Chaos Strikes Back Encyclopaedia back in 1999 when I was dabbling with emulators and looked for a CSB ADF for UAE the Amiga Emulator. Can't tell you how delighted I was to play this great game again! For me it is still the best computer game ever created!

Now I play DM and CSB now and then and usually try to play both from start to finish once a year. Next step for me would be to beat DM/CSB with just one character. Never done that before.

I completely agree with you that DM is still the best game ever. I also never tried to beat either game with just one character before I came here. I did it since then, and it is not too hard. I slept more often since my mana was gone quicker, but apart from that, I didn't really have more problems than with 4 characters. I even beat CSB with just one reincarnated character. Yes, this is the best game. and welcome. I found dmweb.free.fr searching for dungeon master b/c it wouldn't work on the Atari ST.
