Hacked DM and CSB for Atari ST

Post by ppera »

Is there any interest for Atari versions of Dungeon Master and Chaos Strikes Back for Atari ST - different from available on NET (Automatation and similar 'realases' ) ?

I bothered in that time, somewhere around 1990, with original floppies of CSB. I wanted to make backup, to spare original disks. Protection was real challenge... (It is described now, as I see). Anyway, I made additionally some speed improvement - game runs from RAM DISK, plus cheat to make very strong characters (in special version).

I tested it couple times with PC Atari ST emulators. It worked in some, in some not. From recent emulators it works well in Winston and in Steem.

Some notes to Steem: because hacked versions use disk C: as RAM DISK you must set Steem so, that no mapping to C, but to D, or higher. Must warm restart once again to start game. 1 Meg RAM, but better 2 or more. (I experienced once that game ran out of memory when Steem was set to 1 MB, what means that for game left only half Mega)

If someone is interested, let me know here. I will then post archives on my Website...

Yes, please share this version, and any information you have about the copy protection. You can post to the forums on my web site and upload your files there (2 MB max) if you want in the "Misc files Upload" forum.

OK. I will put CSB and Dungeon Master for ST, with some source codes, where it is visible something little about copy protection, only for CSB.
I need first to translate comments in English. I really don't remember much about protections after 15 years :)

Instructions how to insert custom DM levels.

Question:

Exactly what files are for dungeon data in Chaos Strikes Back for Atari ST ?
