Firestaff from beginning without editing

Post by Diriyando »

I just wondered wether anyone has tried this. It should be possible to get the completed firestaff back to the hall of the champions by using this ghost-bug (you know what I mean). And play the game with the Firestaff from the beginning.
Let me explain: Years ago, when I first played DM I had some problems with level 11 or 12 or wherever (it doesn't matter) but I wanted to see the Red Dragon (and Chaos, but the Dragon was more important to me). Then I heared of this ghost bug an I used it and walked from level 1 to level 14 as a ghost (which isn't so difficult, because as you can walk through walls, so you can use pits and the skeleton stairs to come there quickly).
And I watched the Dragon and I saw this sort-of-machine that is used to complete the Firestaff. And when you walk in this machine or the wall where this machine stands you'll find a Firestaff. You can carry it, because as ghost you can use one hand (the cursor-hand).
I am wondering if you can bring this Firestaff (it has to be the completed one, because you find it at level 14) back to the beginning area and use the altar of vi to get the champion you choosed at the beginning back.
Then you can use the Firestaff from beginning without editing (I never tried this, I only got to the Dragon, and I think it's bit of nasty to walk the whole way through the dungeon back), only by the bug.

I didn´t try it.
I always reload the game if a partymember dies. Bad habit.
And i am not sure if you could actually take the firestaff.
If you had it, then you would have to throw it through the door in the dragons level (there is only one door) in order to not being imprisoned, if you were not in ghost mode...

What's the point ?

Don't you think the game would get a bit TOO easy with the FireStaff

Please forgive my ignorance, but what is this "Ghost bug" you're refering to? How can I use it?

Thanks a LOT.

Mia.

prepare a poison cloud.
almost kill your champion. (in any order:)
If you cast the spell, and quickly manage to enter a champion´s mirror, before you die, you should die but not truly die. Thus becoming a ghost.
err. Yes . that´s how i remember it.

Hmmmm, I've heard that phrase a few times but I wouldn't find it much easier. Fluxcage is useless against all creatures besides Chaos, Fuse works against non-materials which might make it a little easier in some places although the Vorpal Blade and Des Ew spells are more effective leaving only Invoke which I don't find that useful because you can't choose the spell you cast, also, spells don't effect all creatures.

Maybe if we could begin with a Hardcleave or Inquisitor...

Also, you need mana to cast powerful spells...
Besides, you can't get back up to the start with all the locked doors

OH! I just tried and it DID WORK! It seems however that the mana doesn't go back up, right? What a shame!

You are a ghost and have no actual character - what you need to do is reincarnate someone then you could use whatever items you have pilfered

Hello :)

Hmmm... I must confess that I need the Firestaff only to catch and punish the cute horned guy...
I would feel very ridiculous if I had the Firestaff in the beginning of the game!! ^^

Okay, so I used the ghost-bug to get the firestaff, but since I can't use magic (not enough mana points) I can't cast a zo-ka-ra and populate the firestaff, therefore I can't fight/defend myself, or cast a fluxcage, kill the dragon or whatever, any clues? Also, can you GO OUT (of the dungeon) when in ghost mode?

You don't need to populate the firestaff, the mchanics are the firestaff+ is in the wall waiting to be swapped for the firestaff unpopulated (they are two different objects)

Yes, you can go unlimited directions in the x/y plane as a ghost (even essentially negative co-ordinates)

I guess you can just go around or through all obstacles til you get to stairs...

OH! this is outstanding, then I assume you can go back to the hall of champions, and pick your team while carrying the firestaff+ and beat the dungeon with the firestaff (that has to be easier.)

Or, of course, you can just hack the dungeon right away and add the firestaff+ at the entrance...

Or add four of them at the entrance...that'd make it even easier...not that I've ever tried it myself or anything...

What it sounded like to me at the end of the original post was that "Altar of VI-ing" resets you're champions abilities and stuff-a-ma-jigs. Is this true?

If you put party bones of a member not actually dead into an altar of vi, it wipes your whole inventory out but otherwise the stats are as they normally would be, minus your altar of vi usuage drain in health

Hmm. This reminds me... You (or someone else was it?) tried to teleport bones(party) to an Altar of Vi and it didn't activate, was that right? Shame, it would've been really evil trap... :)

Editing or custom dungeon. Just put item bones(party) (name of item in DMute) in there with right party member byte and you can have bones of alive party members. ;)

Yeah, i tried to teleport bonesinto a VI alter, no way to make it activate, it has to be by the party...ah well, nothing to stop you from putting party bones down, trapping the party, and forcing them to put the bones in though to proceed : ) (Did soemthing vaguely like that to create a ghost in a dungeon)

The ghost 'bug' is very nice, thanks Champions...

I once hacked the Amiga Version of DM to get ahold of the activated firestaff from the beginning, then played the game..
That was no fun in comparison!

I used DMbuild and put their bones in and put them in the VI altar, and my guy always takes his health to half, even though he's alive, and all his possesions disapear!

Yes. That's exactly what's supposed to happen.
