Dune was definitely his worst film - that wasnt good example. but the rest were very good.
his style of direction fits to DM climate, IMO.
We could ask him, but we need to write a good scerario or basic-storyline first. Who knows, maybe he would read it? I think there`s at least 1% chances, that he would answer.

I think his Dune version was very good, much better than the newer TV version. While Lynch's film isn't very true to the book, it has a lot of style, with great costumes and effects. I also liked the acting and the dialogue. It is one of those movies that I can watch over and over again, despite its flaws. But that's just my opinion.
I doubt that DM could be made into a film, because the game doesn't offer much in terms of storyline. Sure, this could easily be expanded in a well-written script, but the basic premise - a villain in a dungeon who must be stopped - isn't very interesting. Furthermore, DM does not have a really big name that could attract people on its own, unlike say Tomb Raider or Resident Evil.

An event film needs three things -
a) basic plot (and really, a basic plot can be good or even necessary if the other two are well set and complex). DM is a great simple canvas - the plot is interestign, as it is high stakes high stakes - a hugely powerful demi-god, with a complex personaility (you can make Chaos a much mroe unstable rounded charatcer by playing the split personaility embodyment of chaos) wants to subjugate the whole world and turn it to ice. Yeek! There is an antagonist who may be no better, and an inexperienced guide in Theron - and that's the basic plot before you layer on any charatcers with their own agendas!
b) good characters (which is a completely open canvas, but the fact you take four charatcers with totally different personailites as are available in DM, with the already added trauma of dying added to not knowing the perople they are with). You can take any four and create a complex background, you can take any four and you have good hooks for personailities that will clash or be mysterious or sympathetic
c) add a good 'world' to learn the rules of - again, DM fantasty world is that, and can be built on to keep the interest - the history and world outside the dungeon, the creatures around, the small touches like magic. By simply altering the dungeon to have more characters (certain levels mean something, Chaos pulls outside influences inside) you can build up a rich enviroment to set the above two
Any film from a computer game that has been bad has sort of concentrated more on c) whcih is the stage, and left of b) - since a) is always simple in a comp game, this has made them not as good. Anyway that's my take on it
A game I always wanted to see become a film was Syndicate. The basic world is so much a mixture of many things such as bladerunner, robocop, terminator etc that you already have an easy shorthand to paint the world with, leaving more time for an interestign complex plot and charatcers - I had ideas...I will never produce such a film, but I had ideas... : )

I never liked Dune on the screen, because I read a book first. Book itself was much better, (although polish translation wasn`t done very properly), and if I saw a film first, I would become discouraged to read a book.
There are some little changes to put DM on the screen, because of small costs of producing : a simple little studio could be enough for the story. In XXI cent. special effects are also not a big problem - most SE could be done on a computers (15 years ago that WOULD be big costs, but not now). I think the total cost of production shouldn`t exceed more than 1 mln $

Dune I think is the only lynch film that really appeals to me. I like the fact that he's very predictive of the future in the scenes. Like the internet.
Lynch just has a habit of making things that are real.. and making them surreal and just completly odd. He likes to keep people off edge. Just found things like twin peaks and blue velvet very off from reality and difficult to follow as a logical story. Lost highway just falls off the map in that term. I mean I watched them all.. and I enjoyed them enough to watch all of it.. but there are so many movies I've enjoyed so much more than his. Yet you always have the "peak freaks" who love his work.. *shrug*
anyway, I've idea for the story of a DM film swirling around in my head. Mostly ways to get the peoole to the dungeons.. character dynamics .. and potintial conflicts.. things they will do to and for eachother.. the rest is traps and refferences to the game... really, what's needed for me is to make it all cohesive.. into a final story and then broken down to a screen play... natural dialogue.
