The odd thing about this is I was able to enter the dungeon previously - but only the one time. Now when I press 'PRISON' the rock doors open about 7 or 8 inches(relatively speaking), my cursor vanishes, and the game is unplayable. I'm trying to figure out why it worked once but never again. Is my tower insane??
I even tried the original DM and it hangs as well.
Any clues?
I'm going to continue toying with it because my wife and I love the old Dungeon Master game. But if anyone can save me some time to get around this problem I would appreciate it.
I still have all my old ST games but no monitor. Thanks much for producing this site!

Nevre heard of that before. You may want to re-download the zip file incase something has got corrupted. You may also want to check that none of the game files are set to 'read only' (can't remember if this matters for anything but saved games). YOu might also want to check the config file and make sure the resolution set is correct for your minitor. I can't imagine why any of the above would help, but they are the only things I know that can cause problems!

Very strange.
At that point in the game, nothing of significance is actually happening! In particular, the code always draws the entire dungeon view and then draws the doors on top of it. The point being, that it's not even the case that as the doors open it might expose something in the dungeon behind it that causes the crash.
In other words, everything it is doing as the doors open, it has already done before successfully to get to that point.
As beowuuf suggests, I'd recommend that you re-download the zip file and install the game again and see if that helps.
