Using Freeze Life-boxes

Post by HJP »

I remember when I decided to complete DM on my Amiga-computer. Year was like 1995 or something. After some "training", I started new game, Re-Incarnated 2 characters and began raiding.

---

My friend told me that Magical boxes are very useful but one box can be used only one time. I checked what magical box does. There reads "freeze life". Quite clear, so I decided to spare them for those situations I really need them. I didn't even tested them, Freeze Life tells just enough.

( After killing some paper guys )

This spell system is strange. Lets play some time and grab some food and water.

( After some levels )

Now, Lets try to find every spell in this game.

( After trying harder spells )

This stupid guy cannot cast this spell. Needs more practice.

( After practice )

Now, lets cast everything systematically!

( After finding "some" spells )

I only can find 6 useful spells. Healing Potion, Fireball, 2 Light spells, Mana Potion and Strength potion.

Now it's time to continue!

( "Some" gaming later )

Ok, I grabbed third RA-Key, so Tomb Of The Firestaff is the place. I encountered some Stone Golems. Let's see about these Freeze Life-boxes. About 10 pieces. Well, I kill those dudes without them and spare for harder situations.

( After bashing, grabbing Firestaff and "some" travelling )

There seems to be a Dragon. I got some more Freeze Life boxes from somewhere ( About 12 total now ) but who really needs them? Let's spare them for harder situations. Just hack that Dragon!

( After bashing, casting and stuff )

Dragon is dead and there seems to be "some" food. Now I remembered to check out Firestaff and that seems to be totally BS weapon. Who really needs Fireshield for example? There seems to be a door. Lets find the key.

( After some searching and finally completing the Firestaff )

Ok. Now I have this Firestaff thing that seem to have some totally useless functions. That Fluxcage does no damage at all and what's the point with Fuse? Stupid to have so much work to get weapon like this.

( After finding stairs up )

Hmm, some enemies but lets just kill them.

( After that )

All right. There are some enemies and a dude with black cloak. I just kill everyone else first and then finish him. Who really needs any Freeze lifes yet?

( After killing most other enemies )

There seems to generate more and more those flame-dudes.

Ok, I have over 20 6.th Level Mana Potions so let's cast some 6.th level fireballs onto that black dude and bash after that if needed. I will need Freeze Life's later.

( About 70 6.th level fireballs later )

That black dude is still alive.

With his axe the corpse will chop!

That dude has quite good Armor / Shield / Dexterity / ... I cannot do any damage. Maybe I should seek for better weapon. Hardcleave, Inquisitor and stuff seem to s*** against good enemies.

Lets back of and do some inventory research.

( After some checking )

If that dude is like nonmaterial, I'll try Vorpal Blade!

( After some disrupting )

That doesn't seem to work.

Freeze Lifes are more useful later.

I have this stupid Firestaff. Lets see what Fuse does.

It seems to move this dude sideways. Very stupid thing.

Ok. Fluxcage seem to create nice looking effect. Let's put some Fluxcages around just for fun.

( After running around and putting "some" Fluxcages )

That stupid black guy is blocking my way. Lets Fuse to get him sideways out of the way so I can put more Fluxcages!

Hey, what happens now?

WTF? Game ends now?

I WAS SUPPOSED to use those Freeze Lifes!!

This game S****!!!

This story was quite good replica about my thoughts when playing DM about 10 years ago :)=

Hehe, great story there! I also tend to never use the good, rare items, I always save Magic Boxes or FUL and VEN bombs until I need them - which usually means that I finish the game with my backpack full of those! I encounter this phenomenon in almost every game I play: I almost never use the best weapons in Resident Evil or Tomb Raider and never heal my characters with Elixirs in Final Fantasy. I guess I am just a "stingy wazzok", as Ameena might say.

Oh yeah. On almost every other game I spare every good item ( One use or limited use of course ) and in the end I may have completed the game and have much great items left.

Oh no no, au contraire Trantor, I dont even bother to pick up stuff like Magic Boxes unless in a custom dungeon and I'm checking to see if there's anything useful hidden underneath them. But about things like Tomb Raider, yes I get all the uber gear but then never use it because I'm like "Oh but it doesn't have much ammo so I'd better save it..." and keep saying that all through the game till "Woot, I finished it, and I never actually did use those uber weapons...oh well!" :).
And HJP, rofl that was a great story, especially the end bit witht he Fluxcages :D.

I never used those boxes either because they're simply not very useful. I had the ammo problem playing Tomb Raider 2. I was carrying an M-16 for half the game before I even remembered I had it. By then I had so much ammo that I just unloaded into every bad guy. It made the game way too easy. The second time I played Half-life (original) I conserved ammo and ended up with so much it was crazy. I think having limited resources makes people want to conserve them, even if they're not very useful.
