Same here. I've been in a depression for several months now, though I think I am over the worst. If you'd like to tell us more, I will listen.

ok, well first have any of you ever thought that you were somthing else, and not actually human? (if youre not comfy with saying it here then pm it) because i pretty much found out im not, 4 years ago, whereas infact im a dragon, spiritually that is, hence my stuff and actions, but i do end up having thoughts of loneliness, because thats how i lived as one. pretty much after i found out, i just had a look round, end up finding others who have the same kind of things i do, being as dragons spiritually and such, so basically ive killed off myself as a human, and think and look at things from my own way. still though, have to act all hoomanish round everyone else, but i just felt i could trust you all if i ever spoke about this.

i have no problem with anyone looking at me funny for this, but i do get disappointed.

well, I`m taking psychotrops for about a year (this is not a joke!) They started working just after several months. I think it`s ok now. And I`m afraid to stop taking it.

Interesting to see that so many people here seem to have problems with their psyche in one way or another - for me, it definitely helps to see that I am not alone.

Sera, I never actually had the feeling that I am not "human", but I sometimes feel like an "observer", like someone born as a human to look at them from the inside, if you know what I mean. Sometimes I feel as if I am not entirely participating in human life, but looking at life in a larger context. If you consider the vastness of space, the countless planets out there and how incredibly short humans exist compared to the age of space, and just how many of us are here on this planet, each life of each human seems extremely unimportant - and this is a very cruel, depressing and sad thought that I wish I could banish from my mind. So you could say I am only half aware of my own life, which may be the reason why I have so much trouble coping with it, even though my problems are negligible compared to others.

I think everybody can see that I am full of contradictions...

Sera, why do you feel like being specifically a dragon spiritually? Is it because you associate yourself with certain traits dragons have, or do you just *feel* like being a dragon? (I hope you know what I mean by that.) I am no psychologist, but I would be very interested in hearing more about this, if you are willing to let us know.

Speaking generally, I don't like humans...I mean, physically we're bog all apart from big brains and opposable thumbs. And we don't seem to use one of those too well :P. I kinda wish I was somewhere else...whenever I see a cool film or TV series or read a book, I think up a new Ameena (my alter ego, so like, me but with a few slightly altered character traits) and place her in that universe to interact with the characters and stuff. Atm I'm reading Anne McCaffrey's Pern books so I have a weird mental story of a new black dragon hatching out on Per, not Impressing on anyone and going Between to Earth in the middle of the night, walking down the road and looking at me and Impressing and then we grab my two friends and bog off to Pern forever (wher I rename myself Ameena) :).
Hmm anyway yeah that's probably very weird. Ugh, I have to find a job or I wil get moaned at eventually by my parents, but I don't really want a job...I'm not fantastic at interacting with other humans in RL (as opposed to the Internet, as you see I have plenty of friends here :)). Some people are people magnets. I'm more of a people repellant :P.
But I'm not depressed or anything. I spend most of my mental time (when not actually concentrating on anything specific) in one of the many Ameena-lives I've developed over the past several years. It's fun there, and she has lots of friends and does lots of cool exciting stuff and erm...stuff. Well anyway hmm I dunno if this is really like your dragon thing Sera but well...meh I dunno.

*trails off, having run out of things to say, plus it's 4am so she should really be going to bed...*

depression. but wlile I`m taking medicines, I would say it`s... quite ok !!!
Except that, I`m trying to spend many time with other people, partying, meeting friends, etc. The worst you can do is to sit home alone and separate from the world! Stop it or you`ll get insane! I like to spend time with other people and consider myself as 100 % human :)
friends, people, partying, meetings, interests... life could be wonderfull, when you have a place to live and not starving! It`s up to you! :)

Depression manifests itself in many ways. Whether it is a symptom of say loss, bereavement, circumstance or a chemical inbalance, the effects are very much the same.

Many anti-depressants try to alter the course of depression by increasing neurotransmitters in the brain (ie 'feel good' chemicals). However, for a lot of people, counselling or psychotherapy is more effective as it treats the root of the depression.

A GP is more likely to prescribe an anti-depressant as he fits symptoms to a disease. Therapy may work better. We are all different. Yet it affects many of us.

Therapy, medication...and chocolate, surely ;). Jfyi if anyone doesn't know, chocolate stimulates the release of serotonin (aka the "happy hormone") in the brain. Well, probably not very good against depression but it's still yummy ;).

Yeah, chocolate also has caffeine and promotes release of noradrenaline. And of course sugar...

As exercise is such a wonderful anti-depressant, maybe have the chocolate before you go out for a jog!

Hhhmmm, so there is a correlation for people liking dungeon master, and being depressed.

Sherlock Holmes: Obviously the persons who like playing a demanding and difficult game like dungeon master have a high calibre of intelligence, and therefore are more prone to depression.

Well said mister Holmes! Although your intelligence-depression hypothesis still needs hard evidence.

For some people depression is yearning for more or difference, and not obtaining it, regardless of perception by others of there being. Many people who live simple lives are the most content.

Just a quick message to say that if any visitors of this board have been affected by the hurricane in the US, and its aftermath, I hope you are OK and the situation resolves quickly.

Seconded. It really looks horrible. I'm also amazed that the American authorities seem to have a lot of trouble with organising help. Maybe the amount of destruction was underestimated. All the best wishes to all affected people.

I hate to sound insensitive here, but even the BBC news team inferred that the reason help was so late was because deep, deep down their is still a divide between the black and white communities of america. Surely the FIRST area's you send aid to are the poor area's of America, the ones with the most people in left in them, who are suffering. Stupid US Government, secret agenda I say, Conspiracy!

Anyway, I also offer my condolences.

Oh it was a poorer area of America? I dont know much about the layout of the USA so...
Funny how when there was that tsunami last year, everyone jumped up ASAP to help out the people affected by that, but now part of America's been badly hit by a hurricane, it seems to have taken about a week and still not much has changed - there's still people stuck in places or all crowded together in that big sports dome place. You'd think that America being as rich as it is might have the resources and the ability to deal with this kind of thing. But I'm not there. I don't know. I just thought it, that's all. So umm...don't have a go at me for seeming to be mean about it or whatever :P.

It's if it's called "Mophus" that we'll probably also want to fear for our lives - appears calm and friendly, but who knows what's really there...
Oh and Paul, you just reminded me - in the book I'm reading atm there is a character called "Nabhi", hehe.
