Hmm... I'm not sure if this is a shame or not. I guess it depends on what you mean. I mean, to be honest, I blame the "hardcore gamers" for the stagnation in the industry. They want the biggest, baddest, best FPS, with groundbreaking revolutionary 3D graphics that require a $400 card (but no major
gameplay innovations mind you!) so they can play online for 9 hours a day and show off their 1337 sk1llZ. They want an RPG that takes 80 hours to complete, not counting the subquests, becuase when you spend 15 hours straight leveling up to level 99 before you even enter the first dungeon, you tend to blow through the game pretty quick-- oh yeah, and this one needs cutting-edge visuals too.
Hmph.

Jedi Kight serries PC only good!
original Unreal Tournament PC GOOD!
I kind of liked the original UT, too, though it seemed entirely too based on multiplayer. The bots were stupid as dirt, and forget about online-- how do you compete with the ones who play it to death and then some?
If you're going to do multiplayer, at least provide the option to be something other than the standard "deathmatch guy." Here is where I give a nod to the Aliens Vs Predator series of games, as they let you pick the Alien or the Predator in multiplayer, in addition to the Marine. Allowing the "enemy" classes, balanced for multiplayer of course, allows for so much more interesting gameplay.
I don't know much about Doom 3, but think about that for Doom 2-- a player controlled cacodemon! The balance ain't bad, if you ask me: tons of HP, can fly, however, it only has that stupid, slow fireball attack (but it does do tons of damage if it hits)
