Story thread?

Post by beowuuf »

Based on the christmas thread idea, how about a general story thread? People can post whenever, a paragraph at the time (from long paragraphs to a single sentence of line of speech) and slowly build up a fantasy story. Tone can be whatever, and change on each paragraph. The story, I am sure, would emerge and diverge as it went on.

Anyone interested? If so I can post a first paragraph and get the ball rolling.

Well sure. I'm up of it, since it's sort of a good intellectual excersise and not to mention great fun. But maybe after the Christmas story will conclude.

Cool, I will post a neutral first paragraph... soon...

I'm sure it can run concurrently with the Christmas thread!

Nah, this sounds much better than Christmas thread!

The only problem is that if someone is writing a whole paragraph and posts it at the same time as someone else, what should happen? It would be unfair to delete one especially if it's long, but clearly the story will have gone in two different strands.

How do we resolve that?

By not worrying and dealing with it when it happens : )

Yes, there is the problem that someonne will work on a long paragraph then find someone else posting that would spoil their work. But then, isn't half the fun correcting the story and making it work wiyt as few changes?

Hmmm, not if it's a long paragraph of description or exposition. That would be more annoying than fun.

Or both paragraph are valid, the reader chooses which one to read.

Better yet, we create a new forum, where each paragraph is a thread, linking to other threads like a FF book!

The story could be some sort of dungeon venturing. Anyone could add an option to any paragraph, like "if Chani casts a fireball, read here [link]", etc.

FF books rule!

DSAs broke zyx'as mind, how sad

*I won't say how tempting that sounds now...a DM gamebook forum, each user just posts a number depending on the prevuious links given and the admins can add options or amend as needed...*

You can always post the interntion to write a lengthy paragraphy in the supporting comment thread first

how about a post when someone is working on sth in advance.
could be a different thread, containing the queue/list of the current writer (and the predecessors)

there would be a post at the (temporary)end of the general story!

like
gambit is next. or
beo is currently working on s.th.
atm waiting for Suule to post his story here .
zoooom's part yet to come..
dot dot dot (maybe in red colour)

So this way there would be no problem, yet the story could become less surprising,
in a way that you would know who does the next post...dunno if that would be bad?

Plus someone could say 'away to do it' then be distracted and not get back to it....nah, just see how it goes, people post whenthey like, if there is a large gap the same person can even post a second paragraph after their first, it will all be flexible.

I've just had my head done in by notes on lead-free soledring though....I can't think any more...

Yes, but I am hoping this will be balanced by the fact you are already doing this elsewhere

Hmm, maybe I was being a bit thick

Then again, have you seen my post count? What makes you think this isn't an excuse just for me to post long sections? Wahahha! Then when I get distracted by my ADD, it's still being written! I'll be rich, rich I tells you! Wahahahahahhahah!

Well I've just made my first post to that story. Even as I was reading your first post, Beo, I realised how I was gonna ned up playing it - I'm gonna end up doing it like an RPG (sort of automatically because that's how the story seems to me) and playing a certain character (or maybe one or two others if I bring them in). I realise this story is probably gonna go completely manic and weird a bit like the Christmas one-worder but that's okay, I'll just go with it.
Although umm since, like I said, I'm gonna end up doing this like an RPG, I'm kinda umm...possessive over my characters...but hey maybe this could sort of become a story/RPG where everyone posts stuff for their own character(s) and we all sort of interact and umm stuff...We could end up being gloriously complicated with people going off in all directions and have this place turn into an RPG forum instead lol.

LMAO! The green eyed sultry adventuress is Ameena's - leave 'er alone or she'll sic her ratties on you!

And lol, great, my story thread and cows RPG thread idea merge perfectly. And her was me worrying after the fact about including such a large number of characters in the first paragraph...

Lol "sultry"??? I'm not entirely sure what I want her to look like yet but she's always black (or black hair) with green eyes so I can show that. Anything else I'll bring out as I go.

Zyx not fluent in English? I suppose you only said that to annoy Beo. Which is fun. I might add that my English is certainly worse than yours Zyx. Et mon francais n'est pas bien aussi. ;)

Yeah, ha :P. Well I made her so I can name her surely...and Ameena is the name I use for all such games and RPGs and stuff so Ameena she shall be here. She mine. No touchy.
Of course, I still don't know exactly what she looks like, but once I have an idea what the situation is then I'll give her physical attributes to suit ;).
